Armada wishlist: What do you think is missing?

I would love squadron health markers. Perhaps an Etsy seller with a 3D printer can come up with something. That really is a good idea though. I would be in for that as well as a 6 by 3 mat.

I've seen people just use small dice where they just put like a d6 on the squadron base, that tends to work well for my opponent and I.

Yes I’ve seen these and have had my eye on them. Thanks for reminding me, I had kind of forgotten about these.

That's what I do now, but it's meh.

More ships with SFO.

I really really hope one of those face down cards on the Chimaera is one...

I would love to see them add more fighter aces to fill in gaps that may be missing in some fighter builds.

even if it was just grabbing ones from Xwing I would be fine with it, I just want more variate, coz im greedy.

My Han Solo pony can beat up your Tarkin pony.

Not if Tarkin pony is commanding that one ship I want from a forgettable EU book! Also I realize that we're already getting Thrawn, but no wish list thread is complete without twenty people asking for Thrawn. So I officially request Thrawn.

On a non-sarcastic note (sorry, I admit to laying the snark on a bit thick), if I was to ask for a game aid (which I confess is somewhat outside the scope of the original post but not too much I think), I would want something that could clip on to the rear of a ship base and hold up a speed dial perpendicular to the base where the dial has a window to the front and back so the same number is visible to both players. While we're at it, some kind of activation toggle too. That way it's clear to both players what the speed is and whether the ship has activated yet or not. Currently you can gain that information by looking at the ship card, but the less eye-dancing you need to do during a game the better. Maybe that's just me, though - I don't usually get confused by that kind of thing but I know players who do and the more information you can get in one place, the better.

Anyways, beyond that if I was going to ask for a practical something in new releases, particularly for Imperials, I'd likely be looking to plug a few gaps or address a few current issues, such as:

  • A commander or upgrade suite or some such that made Interdictors more appealing (Disposable Capacitors helped, mind you). Nose-punches aside (hi, @Drasnighta ), it's widely perceived to be a hunk of junk; while I don't feel that negatively about it, it's very difficult to fit into 400 point fleets because it is both expensive and undergunned. If just one or the other, I don't think it would have as many problems. That and its commander (Konstantine) is himself not great, so he doesn't even have the one guy everyone admits does just fine with it (to give Rebel examples, both Assault Frigates and LMC80s seem to create a lot of disagreement on if they're good overall or not, but you'll find fairly broad consensus that Assault Frigates at the very least are good with Ackbar and LMC80s are good with Madine, regardless of the disagreements about them otherwise).
  • Speaking of which, when it comes to upgrades in general, Imperials could diversify their competitive fleet options with some more loving in three different areas:
    • Better Ion Cannons for non-large-battery mixed-dice ships. Imperials have a lot of Ion Cannon slots on ships that are too small to really benefit from Leading Shots (such as Interdictors and Raider-IIs) and/or are not a perfect fit with SW-7s due to including some non-blue dice in the battery (again, such as Interdictors and Raider-IIs). That leaves them with Ion Cannon Batteries, which are all right but somewhat unreliable, or a host of other janky blue crit upgrades that don't really directly do much outside of a prone-to-failure combo engine. Something like a blue External Racks or Expanded Launchers (if costed a bit more competitively) or something like that would be a godsend for some of the Imperial in-betweeners.
    • Weapon teams that benefit blue dice. Black dice love them some Ordnance Experts. Red dice in general love them some Gunnery Teams. Blue dice... uh... are there and don't really have strong feelings about weapon team upgrades. It doesn't need to be as straightforward as "give us Ion Experts," but something that synergized with blue dice would open up some build options on Raider-IIs and Kuats, at the very least.
    • Offensive retrofits that don't care about squadrons. Disposable Capacitors were a great first step, but Imperials have abundant offensive retrofit slots and not all their ships care about better commanding squadrons or (here comes the grumpiness!) wasting points on generally garbage anti-squadron upgrades (shout out to those losers, Point Defense Reroute and Quad Laser Turrets [except sometimes with Kallus but eh]). More upgrades in the same vein as Disposable Capacitors would be greeted with open arms, and I personally would love something that provided some speed or maneuverability boost/options, which could hypothetically find a ready home on... conceivably anything in the Imperial fleet with an offensive retrofit slot, but would be of particular interest on VSDs and Interdictors (and on the Rebel end, Assault Frigates and Command HMC80s?).
      • Of course any speed/maneuverability upgrade would need to be balanced carefully so as to not be an auto-include. Whether that means a high base cost or making it one-use or limiting its effectiveness so it's generally unappealing except to the slowest ships, I would leave that to FFG.
  • In terms of ship types, Imperials still lack a heavier broadside ship, although you would need to be very careful to ensure it still "feels" Imperial and isn't simply a worse Rebel variant, which is a tough balancing act. Off-hand I'd likely focus more on blue dice (maybe even all blue dice?) instead of longer-ranged red dice like Rebels are accustomed to. Past that you could make an argument for a more combat-focused flotilla although that presents even more dangerous issues for game balance due to the possibility of concentrate-fire-aided cheapo flotillas outgunning their same points' worth in "real" combat ships while providing more activations.
  • It would be nice to see something to give numerous TIE Bombers a bit of a bump now that their Lord and Saviour Major Rhymer (May Vader Bless and Keep Him) has been dethroned. Imperials can still do anti-ship squadrons, but it seems nowadays it's more common to see ace-heavy fleets (either Sloane-led and/or Jendon+Maarek+friends) instead of lots of TIE Bombers or even perhaps Firesprays.

And that's all that comes to mind immediately. I'm overall happy with the game, but you asked so I tried to provide an honest answer. It is the internet, however, so someone will be by shortly to tell me why I'm wrong and that's fine because at least it's in the original spirit of this thread!

Well, the latest ep of rebels introduced the TIE Defender Elite, so that could be a cool 'new' squadron type, seeing as it seems the old EU doesn't get much love in Armada.

Still missing a ship with two Ordinance upgrades. External and Expanded FTW!!!

In all honesty though, while that would be awsome, it would be way to over powered. Assault Concs. and Assualt Protons?! On the same ship? Fire Control team anyone?

  • Venators
  • ARC-170s
  • V-Wings
  • U-Wings
  • Flotillas
  • Just more Rebel and Imperial ships in general lol
  • More types of boarding troops
  • A new, much improved, campaign!
  • After the Galactic Civil war era is improved. BRING ON THE PREQUEL TRILOGY . I actually loved Episode 1, and 3 was good, just didn't enjoy 2. Though it had some awesome things introduced into it. Love the ships and the characters.

I would love to see some clone wars tech for GCW in Imperial service. Imperial Venators, ARC-170s and V-Wings. Would really help flesh out thematic story play and campaigns, where you're limited to early war tech at first, gradually introducing newer tech. The Venator is just under 1200m, so I think they could work that as a medium base? They could really do some sweet stuff with it, yet keep it balanced enough not to be better than the ships already present.

I’d really like to see Rebel & Imperial starter sets.

Imperial:

Vindicator (Small Base)

IPV-1 System Patrol Craft (Flotilla)

x2 TIE Fighters

x2 TIE Bombers

Rebel:

MC40 (Small Base)

DP20 Corellian Gunship (Flotilla)

x2 X-Wings

x2 Y-Wings

the Small Base Ship would have good firepower and good survivability, but would be slower then the others. They would be the Anvil.

the Flotillas would be fast and hit hard, but would be glass cannons. They would be the Hammers.

The fighters would help teach their screen/Bomber roles.

Release it with dice, new damage decks, and everything new players would need to play for around $50 MSRP.

This. I want this now. Can I have one? Please?

All joking aside though, I really would like a small-medium size Imperial ship that lacks the flaws which make me not want to field the others, specifically:

Raider: glass cannon with a tendency to fly itself out of the fight, very tricky ship to deal with.

GSD: good ship but really only used because of Demo, so over-situationalized

VSD: I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the VSD, but my tablet keeps trying to autocorrect VSD to BAD, and I think it has a point. The VSD-1 gets about one shot in round 5 if you're lucky, while the VSD-2 is only becoming playable b/c of DCaps. Plus, it requires a massive point sink to make into a competitive ship...

Arquitens: Not a bad ship, but requiring either large numbers or superb deployment to function well.

Quasar: I like it, but it's just a carrier. It can't hold up to any serious fighting.

Interdictor: I don't have one so IDK

I want a medium-weight brawler ship that can provide fire support for my ISD without me having to worry about it popping or flying itself away or whiffing repeatedly from long range.

I think the suggestions of the Vindicator and Dreadnaught cruisers are good fits for this class, and I'd also add the Acclamator class frigate/transport. In Empire at War, it fulfils this exact role quite well...

Rant over now. :)

I’m pretty new to the game & I flew 3 glads & an ISD 1. If nothing else I think the sheer amount of guns barrelling downrange freaked my opponent out. Only dropped 2 glads in the match. And they took some enemy ships with them.

@Drasnighta do you still have that image handy with the rebel venator? I cant seem to find it....

Like it! It's kind of like the Quasar in armament and hull except heavier and not squadron focused at all. Nice that it's also able to equip the double-slot cards from the Quasar and Hammerhead packs. Now I really want a Vindicator :) because they look really nice too.

I hope that we do get one eventually. Obviously there are some powerful combinations, but I don't know about over powered, especially for a Rebel ship that can't benefit from Screed or Vader. ACM and APT together might be devastating, but if you're taking Fire Control Team then your missing out on Ordnance Experts. And then for 5 points the already useful Damage Control Officer can counter your 14 point combo.

There's no logic or game-design rationale behind it, it's irrational and purely subjective.

But for whatever reason, I am a huge sucker for dual-sided upgrades.

I would love to be able to buy boxes from the different battles like "Battle of Endor", "Battle of Scarrif" and so on.

It would come with all the necessary pilot cards , ship card, add ons like the half finished deathstar. And it will have mission cards that you can use for balance.

Thanks lol

Honestly,

I would like an attractive online tracking engine for Corellian Conflict, with a streamlined interface.

I tried building one myself, but while I thought it was attractive, I did not have the skill or spoons to make the interface as streamlined, or make the input accessible for my fellow players. That put the weight of the effort on my shoulders.

(Also, my server got hacked and my host lost* my domain name.)
