AT-ST Design

By LennoxPoodle, in Star Wars: Legion

Why does it have this thing on the left temple? I presume it's the mortar (so the third hardpoint).

The question is why it needed this. The last time I checked the AT-ST had only two hardpoints and honestly I don't see that a third one is necessary. How often will this beast be equipped with all three optional weapons?

In addition it looks ugly to me, although it is probably just me being unused to it.

I believe that all three hardpoints are optional. You can choose to mount or not mount the optional weapons when building your AT-ST. So if you never plan on using the Mortar you can leave it off.

I will most likely magnetize them if possible, so that i can change them out when customizing my list.

Well, the hardpoints certainly aren't optional. If you mount something on them is a different thing though?

The mortar was probably added to give you more options. You don't have to put it on there, I'll probably keep it off so I have a proper stock AT-ST to use. For the AT-RT I really hope that the other weapons are sort of pegged in there so you can choose between them.

There are 3, check out the FFG spanish thread on here....shows the 3 options off the spanish ffg site.

I had already seen them, I just hope that there is something there for them to peg into, instead of it being a case of where you just need to glue them into the spot to have them stay there. And thanks to Svelok for linking the image for everyone else to see.

It looks like the RT is built to be magnetized, and I'll probably do the same for the ATST.

I might drill it out a bit and use magnets to let me swap them easily.

@Animewarsdude Shure it was added for options but it could just have been an alternative option for the grenad launcher mount.

I guess instead of getting the mortar we could have gotten the below, though that would sort of just make it like the AT-RT's rotary blaster, just probably larger range and more dice.

So an interesting thought.... In the future we may see weapon upgrade expansions! For some reason the idea of buying a box of little weapons for my miniatures is super cool!

looking at the tops of all the at-rt weapons i am of the opinion that all weapons will be pegged. Hopefully it will be a tight enough fit ;)

You've obviously not done much modeling with 40k......

The shine wears off quickly

Ha! I guess so. I mainly played lord of the rings SBG which was all single piece models. :P

It's mainly the cost of said sprues.

Admittedly i pay "australia tax" (that is to say they region lock then gouge us down here) you can add 50% or worse to the cost of a squad
