A board gaming con with the tournament tacked on; however, could be a more likely reason for me to end up there. So Gencon would have many points in its favour.
As far as what is and isn't censored, best to assume if it is even slightly, potentially gauche, it will be censored

We all operate on different budgets and with different priorities.
I would very much LIKE to fly up to MN from TX for a fun competition like Worlds, but with my several gaming hobbies (Oh, and a life outside of games, strangely) it's just not reasonably affordable to spend that much money for a single, focused event with not that much else to see/do.
And not to sound like a downer regarding turnout (I firmly believe turnout is largely based on the game not being fully released yet) but the fact that only 13 people showed make me breathe a sigh of relief that I didn't go. We can pull that many in a local tournament (and get fewer elves).
Next year? We'll see. I'm hoping by then the game has sturdy enough legs to draw in a bigger pool.
