When Do You Pop Glitterstim?

By Boba Rick, in X-Wing

How have you used Glitterstim and what strategies do you employ?

That's my question.

Thanks.

I personally don’t use it much because I struggle with the timing, and it doesn’t always feel worth it. Usually, the first round of firing in the whole game is the best time to use it, in my opinion. The last time I flew it was two copies on Sabine Shadowcaster. That was fun!

I never use glitterstim, myself. Personally, I don't think anyone should even touch the stuff unless it's prescribed by a licensed medical professional.

When you're about to use a torp, missile or other alpha strike that you have a target lock for to make sure you get the full mod for the attack or when your about to get focus fired and you need to make sure your green dice are good to you.

spelling correction

Only when I want a huge night that ends in me wearing nothing but my undies popping glowsticks all over myself as I dance on a burning cop car...

When Do You Pop Glitterstim?

At the start of the combat phase. It says right there on the card.

:P

My primary use of Glitterstim is on Lancers. I generally view it as a defensive upgrade, thus popping it when I've got a lot of guns on me. While Sabine is a lot of fun with it, I generally have it on Ventress as a safeguard against overlapping anything.

There are some good examples of offensive use of it, particularly in conjunction with ordinance.

My prescription comes from a Doctor J. T. Hutt.

Wasn't he the one who ODed on slavegirls?

Well, yes...but what he did in his personal life doesn't detract from his medical knowledge.

I tried it once. Never inhaled.

I pop it when I decide it is the best time to look the enemy in the eyes and say "I don't believe you."

Precisely.

Cadet,

Mind altering substances are illegal at the academy, and evidence of their use will result in your expelling.

I opened the thread to make a silly comment, but:

All is well in hand. Carry on.

Generally when you expect to be making and/or facing multiple attacks in the same round.

In arc of Dengar, for example, is usually a good time to pop the stims. Or when you're facing down a swarm, firing cluster missiles or - and this is a biggy - if you're already tokenless.

The turn you’re going to have to take lots of shots is traditional.

I usually pop Glitterstim on a round in which I'll roll no eyeballs or all hits/evades anyway.

I don't plan it that way, mind you, but that's what always happens.

Or you could follow Dr. bob a fett and never mess with the stuff. Although he had a habit of messing around with sarlacc's disease...

You pop glitterstim any time you can. Why, are you holding?

Pop glitterstim every day.

When I ran it on IG-88s, it would often get triggered on the initial joust for whatever ship had the most guns pointed at it - this gave something of a reverse-biggs effect, disincentivising the opponent from shooting at him (which would split their fire), or failing that, welp, I got super-focus for the round anyway, so the ship was more likely to survive.

I'd generally try to make sure there was only ever one ship in such a position, and save the second for later rounds in order to hold it as a threat, or to help hit home a 'do or die' turn - being able to Evade and know that the rest of your offense/defense will be taken care of can be pretty dang helpful.

It's situational and takes reading the flow of play of course, but as others have said the 1st opportunity you are going to *need* the focus more that once is a good rule of thumb.

If you're outnumbered or way outdiced offensively make thae the 1st time you need it defensively.

Run two stims on Ventress with a YV-666 and Jabba and pop one every turn!
