Looking for a casually competitive squad. Where I can take it to a tournament and go 3-1, occasional 4-0 on a good day.

That Dengar build is about right. Honestly, it could very well be THE Dengar build now that the FAQ is out.

However, I am slightly underwhelmed by the Boba build. PS9 vs PS8 isn't the biggest of differences these days; PS10 with VI would be a stronger effect. Engine Upgrade is a fine choice, but I find it often is unnecessary. I don't like the 4-LOM/Discharger combo. I feel like it limits you too much. A Cad Bane Bombing Boba could be nice, as would Lone wolf. I might do both: LW, Cad Bane, and Bomblets or Prox mines.

I disagree. I think EU is a MUST to push in to range one in certain circumstances.

Looks pretty good. I'm personally a fan of 2 PS9 pilots to give you the flexibility of who moves and shoots first.

I played the following version before the FAQ, to great success, and it remains untouched by the changes:

Boba (Veteran Instincts, Gunner, Engine Upgrade)

Dengar (Predator, Recon Specialist, Punishing One)

100 points

Recon Specialist is awesome to boost Dengar's survivability, or to help with both his attacks when an enemy triggers his ability. VI+Gunner+Engine is usually more than enough on Boba.

Yep that’s the idea behind it

Thats a very fair point! As is using EU to get to range 1. But 4-LOM/Dischargers is still gambling on your placement.

Boba wants to be in Range 1, you’re only ever going to 4-Lom/Ion Discharges when Boba is where he wants to be.

Problem with 4-LOM/Ion Discharges in this list is that there's no other supply of ion tokens which means your opponent has almost no reason not to take the ion, much less if it's a large base, where he'll take the ion and just not care.

4-Lom is still an amazing upgrade for what is usually once or maybe twice a game. This combo allows it to trigger more often. Sure they can take the Ion, but then I know where they will be next turn to trigger Boba again and I can 4-Lom again too and Boba will still be fine with 1 Ion. Sure, if the opponent has a large base it’s not great. But there will always be things that aren’t great versus certain lists.

I understand the trick with adaptability or veteran instincts.

What do you think about fearlessness on boba in such a build?

I considered Fearlessness. The EPT on Boba is certainly an area to try different things in. Reason why I didn't initially put it on was to make a 98 point bid for Dengar and have the flexibility of them both being 9's

2-0 so far!

I beat a Fairship Varient with Roark instead of Biggs. 4-Lom/Ion Dischargers was key. Even though he chose to take it on Roark first turn I used it, it allowed me to know where he would be next turn and gave me another use for 4-Lol that I normally wouldn’t.

Second game was versus Nym/Miranda. Again, Ion Dischargers were key or Boba would had been Ioned from an Ion bomb. Instead he was able to set up a Range 1 onto Miranda next turn.

3-0! Just beat Deadeye Scurrgs Plus Mangler Inaldra

4-0 now!

I beat Miranda/Dash!

I would suggest:

Dengar: Expertise, K4, Punishing One (52)

Boba: VI, EU, Inertial Dampners, 4-Lom, Ion Bombs, (48)

so very similar idea, but:

ps 9 vs 10 on Boba is difficult, but generally I feel higher is better than sane as Dengar.

Dampners are great, especially if you move last, as a sneaky option.

Ion bombs are an extra bonus for Boba although definitely see the value of 4-Lin and dischargers together

Losing out on Engine though is pretty big. However, I like what you’re going for. Can throw Andrasta on there and get LRS since he typically never TL’s, you’ll get it for those turns where you are disengaged.

Still have Engine upgrade ?? (EU)

I think your list suffers from a serious lack of damage mitigation. As a player who primarily flies heavy-hitting Rebels I'd love to see such a list across the table, since I know I can burn down a ship every two turns.

In all honesty, Asajj would be a far stronger choice than Boba for this reason - she does damage, but can also tank shots and has a lot more flexibility. If you're seeking that PS 9 level, Ketsu with VI might be best.

However, if you really want to play Boba I'd suggest the following build:

Bob A. Feet (48)
K4 Security Droid
Countermeasures
Glitterstim
Fearlessness

Boba loves range 1, so you may as well capitalise on it. Glitterstim protects you against the inevitable bump, and combined with Countermeasures gives you a turn of immunity, as well as an ordinance deterrent. K4 and Fearlessness (which triggers in the rear arc, BTW) are your offensive mods, and should let him unleash brutal "5" dice attacks at R1.

Engine upgrade is pretty much useless on a firespray, given it's dial. Just accept that anything that can arc-dodge Boba will succeed, and put Dengar in positions to mitigate that.

I agree with most of what you said EXCEPT the Engine Upgrade comment. Engine Upgrade is considered a must by most people on a Firespray for good reason. It improves its dial tremendously.

5-0 so far with the list! Just beat Quad Aggressors.

6-0! Just beat Tanky Rey and Tanky Red Ace. This one was recorded so they should put it up on YouTube.

How useful has Ion Discargers been? It seems pricey, and something like Glitterstim is a classic on Boba Fett.

The other Dengar I'd consider is Lone Wolf, Recon Spec, and maybe Glitterstim. Positioning might not work out on the table for Lone Wolf--both of these ships like to mix it up. LW+RS Dengar might pair better with an Asajj Ventress. However, I like the defensive possibilities of the build.

Lost a game finally lol. Lost to 4 Starviper’s plus Sunny. Game came down to first turn of engagement. Starviper’s rolled paint on every single die, red dice and green dice. With Dengar/Boba shooting at 1, I took 1 shield. That only happened because I 4-Lom’d or he would had gotten out of that too... Boba put up a **** of a fight at the end, but couldn’t squeeze it out.

Then beat down Vader, Echo, Backdraft after that to go 7-1 so far with it. MOV on it is really bad. But if they switch to the new System Open way of doing things it will be perfect for the list.

It’s been pretty good. Has essentially allowed me to 4-Lom whenever I’d like to. If I’m out of Range 1 to use them I’m still not worried cuz I know probably the next time I 4-Lom they’ll be in range 1. If it gives me 1 or 2 turns more of 4-Lom it’s perfect. Glitterstim makes boba super predictable the following turn. It’s great, don’t get me wrong. But Ion Dischargers have been a lot better than what I thought they would be.

Cool to learn. It seems like the kind of upgrade that looks really expensive on the surface, and weak on paper, but could be stronger on the table. I think folks probably discount the impact of Ion when thinking about the game.
