SFs cause havoc and drop missles. Backdraft and Gundark set off the conditions. The shield is to protect Gundark from the, most likely 1 time, he sets off the condition with a crit.
The SF are excellent builds. Naturally there would be things possible to add, but what you have makes for a superb combo. You're right though, Gundark will very likely die fast; accepting that, perhaps even flying with it in mind, would lead to more effective use of his (short) life.
Needs more great white whale.
I see where you're going, and I like the build, but rather than using a shaky TIE I might drop expertise for cheaper EPTs and maybe fly something like Countdown (TIE striker) with LWF for like 22 pts. With 3-4 red dice you have a good chance of getting the crit with something that will survive longer.
So the alternative would be countdown with mk ii engines and dropping Backdraft from expertise to predator.
I would find 4 points out of your SF's and change Gundark for Omega Ace with PTL. It's a more sure Crit with a higher PS.
I like the Countdown with Mk 2, with his ability LWF is less of a necessity. I also really like Outmanuver (instead of predator) as it works with both the front and back arcs of the SF, and as the Harpoons are your alpha, the target lock re-roll negates the usefulness of Predator in you alpha strike. I also just really like trying to get the Outmanuver bonus for both front and back arcs for what I call the 'super dream' SF shot.

Mush these two together. Drop the EPTs to VI for Backdraft, Predator for QD, and add PTL Omega Ace.
I'm going to go with original backdraft, Quickdraw with draw their fire, and a PTL omega ace. Tourney is on Sunday so maybe it will work.
