Thorins "Batuu" inspired Legion terrain - Update: new house + Mat video incl. Legion miniatures!

By ThorinXV, in Star Wars: Legion

Hi guys,

right from the announcement of Legion on I started to build some terrain. Since I didn't want to go the "usual" Endor/Hoth/Tatooine route I have been inspired by the Star Wars Land from the Disney Themepark called "Galaxies Edge". I call my town "Jadefire" and it is located on the planet Gall in the Outer Rim. - Edit: In the meantime the planets name has been released - It's called "Batuu".

I started with a cantina and expanded it now to a bigger complex. So basically these are two separate buildings that can be connected by a bridge section.

Hm, sorry. Obviously I forgot to wrote this down. It is made of Sytrofoam that has been sealed by an acrylic sealant/chaulk.

I was hoping someone would try to replicate some of the structures from the new land at Disney.

Great work!

If you could make a mold, you'd probably be able to make a lot of people happy (and put a little in your pocket too).

Beautiful. Can't wait to see it with the Legion minis.

Thank you. Yeah, this would probably the case. But I would need several kilogramms of silicone and plaster to do this. So I don't think I will mould these ones. Probably I try it on some other smaller buildings in the future.

Me neither! Saw the minis live on Spiel at Essen Germany on Sunday. They are sooooo nice. Especially the AT-ST!

This game is inspiring some awesome terrain - and the skills on display to execute the vision is just mind-boggling!

Beautiful work. Nice to see some out of the box designs.

I am working on an interior design myself. It is based loosely off of the Death Star DLC from EA's Star Wars BattleFront. I want to make it multi-leveled using catwalks and elevators. I am holding off on a final design until I know more about the combat mechanics as I dont want to build a table with areas I cant use.

Living in Orlando I am super psyched for "Star Wars Land" to become a reality. My next door neighbor actually help build Avatar Land and is working on the Hollywood Studios rebuild. We got some pretty cool left over props from the Avatar Land.

Daaaaaang. Those are gorgeous!

Once I get more buildings I'm going to make a run for "Ugliest Town In The Galaxy ”.

Just wow .... amazing work

so much neatness here ..good job

I use a Proxxon 37080 Micromot Hot Wire Cutter Thermocut. Shifting Lands produces their tools for this device.

May be picking my one of those up soon. Thank you for the info.

Great job on the landing pad and skyhopper. You are going to have one amazing and possibly the most unique table out there. Keep up the amazing work and keep posting.

By the way: My Planet got a name in the meanwhile. On the Star Wars site it was announced to be "Batuu".

How did you make the roof of your cantina?

I cut several circles of foam. Each about 1cm / 1/2 inch wide. I also build a cross section which had the form of the roof. Then I positioned the circles on that cross section. Unfortunately I have no pics from the building process but from the final roof form. Hope that helps.

That's awesome! I have been having so much trouble getting shallow dome shapes for my buildings! I might try something like this and fill in the steps with spackle.

Oh, good point. I forgot that one. I used acrylic filler as well to fill the steps. Since In liked that structure I stopped within the process and didn't smooth them out completely.

Here is my tablet layout for my Batuu mat. Sorry for the bad picture quality. I hope I can post some better pics in the near future.

The mat isn't complete yet. It's just the rough layout. I am going to include an additional building and will provide the existing terrain pieces with more details.
