A Ranking System?

By XTrueFinale, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

The Hatamoto concept is nice but I wish we have a more sophisticated ranking system. A system recording worldwide competitive plays, their country and some basic stats.

FFG has so many competitive games but I'm surprised I haven't seen any official ranking system introduced anywhere at all...

There isn't much point to a ranking system. People generally rank themselves much higher than their record supports, and allow personal bias to sway their opinions of other players who have proven records.

I've seen this in every game I've ever played.

I can pretty much guarantee that even after the winner of worlds is crowned there will be someone that complains that they could have won had they been in attendance or that the winner only won because of an inferior playerpool or underveloped meta or whatever other excuse they can come up with.

I'd put more stock in the objective feedback you get from your opponents and others that see your actual play.

the discord league is ranked http://www.shirodaidoji.blogspot.co.uk

and I believe the lotus pavilion comp management system also has elo ranking.

what we really need is for comp players to have an official id as , trust me, trying to track players on names and tags is not easy.

There are leagues that don't require set matches, where players can play any time so long as they start the game as "League Match" and its understood by both players the game will be recorded. Your win/loss ratios and ELO are tracked and saved and you can participate any time. It's not all about number of games played either, a player 20-0 would be ranked higher than someone 40-10.

Lotus Pavilion doesn't have ELO built in, but someone can build something to track it like Isle of Ravens for AGOT.

apologies then, someone on discord said it did yesterday. I'm not particularly interested in comp software so just took him at his word (him presumably...)

I have no interest in being ranked. I prefer to show up at events with story outcomes and surprise people.

win the worlds as unicorn, that will surprise people (with the current card base)

What I'd really like to see is a ranking system that can ojectively rank the decks being played and come up with a ranking based on who should win the match up to award extra points when a player wins a game with an inferior deck, as well as taking into account whatever metric rates the players past performance.

Still I have to commend those keeping track of the rankings we do have. It's a pretty thankless task and deserves some recognition and appreciation, no matter if we agree with it or not.
