Yep, heck I forgot to skin tone the faces, and was all 'meh'. That quick, they were already trimmed.

i dont even bother doing faces on my spearmen. All you can really see without looking at it in a specific angle is the jaw anyway. Slap some skin-tone in there and call it good. No detail whatsoever (other than what the wash does on its own)

To paint detail in there would be maddening, I just slap a base skin tone in. I'm sure someone has gone as far as eyes on spearmen, I'm also sure no one will notice ?.

Because they DO look kinda goofy when you hold them up to get a good look at them lol.

You can now do a 3x2 of crossbowmen with rallying cornicen and dispatch runner with simultaneous orders instead of the second spear block, so you just need your spearstar now.

The upper limit seems to be 29 trays, but that provides a kind of dumb army.

The spearstar is a staple Daqan formation. It will always have a heavy in it as the frontline rune golems are fantastic. So 8 trays. I can realistically see players trying two, so that wouldbe 16 as a reasonable upper limit.

I think the previous posters who said 12 have it right. 8 for the star and 4 for a dispatch runner group. That allows for a supported spearstar, two 3x2 formations, or three 2x2 formations. A really healthy amount of flexibility to army building.

If you can utilize all 4 figures from infantry command then 11 is sufficient?

Although you can't buy odd number of trays.

I own 18 trays, 16 assembled (never built the expansion). But I'm probably not going to paint any more spears. Just wanted to poll opinions. With crossbows and scouts soon, I highly doubt more than 10 will ever be needed.

And once more with feeling, spearstars are boring. I also hate the x-star nonsense, it is as bad as using gate as a suffix.
