I don't think there's a can in the new L5R yet. Like we probably won't see the Khol, Baraunghar or Junghar for the time being.

Well, if memory serves, "Khan" was also the Moto family's internal name for their Daimyo, so I could see there being a Khan character in the current timeline; it just wouldn't be the Clan Champion.

The current Moto Daimyo would be Moto Terumori, according to the old timeline.

Did they not begin to use Khan when the bulk of the Moto family came back from the Burning Sands with Gaheris and Shinjo?

If that unicorn monster is really coming, its got to be Kamoko. Either way, Unicorn is the worst clan right now, but the solution is not to bring a bats*it crazy OP Character into the Clan. This way we just play the game of did you draw kamoko. I wish they would just erata the stronghold to be able to move in both combat types and ad a retreat event for cavalry. Retreat is amazingly strong (to strong for a stronghold) but its weird that their is no Unicorn event doing for cav characters, as this would be such an obvious thematic fit.

On a diferent note: How could Moto Horde and this new character be designed by the same people, it boogles the mind. The ability, the lack of restriction, the none - pol stat, all just for 1 fate.

Moto were pointless before Gaheris (despite Moto Soro). Hopefully no Moto rule now.^_^

Moto Juro. Both rumors/leaks go together. And this character is not about increasing the power of the Unicorn because it's weak. Lion is quite strong and they go Ujiaki.

I wonder that already I see that Matsu Beserker at 3/- at 1 fate and that Dog Master at 2/- at 3 fate. Not the same clan but still, the differences are overwhelming.

Guess they really put a high value on Dog Master's ability. In theory at least, it should have pretty good odds at becoming a 5/- at 3 fate, and the extra cost is to cover the chance you end up with a 7/- value. Since in design at least Unicorn don't use holdings for much you're almost guaranteed at least a 3/- (which isn't great for the cost, but you're paying to play the odds).

That Phoenix district seems oppressive.

"Oh wow I just seem to keep winning favor somehow"

Ya, and the +2 province strength is going to make it hard to break it to discard.

After the release (or soon to be released) of various Holdings, I think we need a 2-cost, Neutral Holding removal Event. ?

Can anyone tell what the numbers at the bottom on those cards are? I'm making a sheet of all the cards in the Imperial Cycle.

These are probably mostly coming in the first Delux box featuring Phoenix?

Seeing how 2 of them are already released/previewed in the current set and the holding references the Imperial Favor which is this set's theme I'm doubting that.

These are Imperial Cycle I believe

Looking at them, I'd guess Henshin Disciple and Master of Gisei Toshi are from Fate Has No Secrets, and *Kanjo District and *Asako Tsuki are from Meditations on the Ephemeral.

Wow. Spit in my Unicorn face why don't you, FFG?

When you see them all lined up together like that, I could imagine that some clans would be a little jealous when they start looking at the combined character pool from the Imperial Cycle packs.

Wow - great spoils! I was expecting Kanjo district after seeing the others ones. Phoenix should be proud they get a district in the inner city. That makes Crane, Crab, Lion, and Phoenix right?

Think they might throw out a few outer districts just to establish that everyone gets an Imperial District? Or do we keep it to the Miwaku Kabe Club?

Yeah - Its hard not to get jealous... but its also important to remember that there may be cards as great for the other clans within these same sets, or just beyond - the game is long, and we must be patient.

Sadly I already saw the Scorpion card I wanted, and people decided to ban it... Is it better to have loved and lost, than to never have loved at all?

And it should be called "Explosives" or "Cornejo's gift" :D

And the art will be Guy Fawkes Rokugani-style, and the flavor text:

Remember, remember, the fifth of Dog.

(Little bit of Rokugan culture, the months are called by animal names)

I know exactly how you feel... Saying that, Fate Worse Than Death and the Fawning Courtier are both pretty awesome cards.

And if it makes you feel any better, I happen to know that Marks decision to go with Seeker at Void was made so long ago the Seeker of Air pick was taken specifically so that when the year-long choice came around, Seeker of Void was available. Something to do with a Province row featuring Pilgrimage and Shameful Display being brutal for the other guy.

There was a time when Seeker was seen as the obviously more powerful role - it was a long time ago... times change, and the cards change. Withing digging up the passed I still think the choice was foolish. Keeper allows more splashed cards, and whether you are splashing dragon, or unicorn, or phoenix getting 13 influence can mean a more reliable splash. Keeper cards are pretty obviously more powerful than seeker ones. Scorpion don't have much use for Keeper Initiates, but no one has use for Seeker Initiates so... and of course the 2 province and bonus fate thing. I think some players are attempting to put more value on 2 bonus fate than its worth. The two provinces of the same element isn't bad in defense but I don't feel I need shameful display and pilgrimage. Midnight Madness isn't automatically a Scorpion win either considering our new, more unbalanced stat line. Phoenix and Dragon are going to love Midnight Madness more than Scorpion or Crane.

Anyway - without digging up the passed, I still think their decision was a poor one, and dedicating the choice to an admitted saboteur brings no comfort.

What' wrong with seeker initiate? I use him all the time it's a really useful card. Maybe not for scorpion as much as they have the province but it' still I good card and I probably get 2 to 3 cards from them most games

Its 2 cost for 1/1 which starts out bad, and you only get his effect AFTER you win the conflict of the ring type. This telegraphs to your opponent what ring you plan to go after, and requires you win this conflict to get anything from it. Unless you are already ahead, buying the initiate puts you behind in power for that conflict already. No ring is always valuable so you may have to make a decision that doesn't help you win just to trigger the ability.

The ability is great on Seeker Initiate - its everything else about it that is complete garbage. 2 cost for a 1/1? What other character would you buy for this? Goblin Sneak is only good because taking a fate away from your opponent may prevent them from winning the conflict but drawing a card after the conflict is done? I'll spend my 2 fate on a character that can do something, and just take ring of earth.

Maybe you should go listen to any of the podcasts featuring Brad Emon and why he decided to play Scorpion rather than Dragon, you might actually learn something. Brad as never a saboteur to begin with, and ultimately he was not the one who made the choice. Mark Armitage did, and he went into worlds with that choice in mind. Having a back row full of provinces your opponent does not want to hit is far better than Backhanded Compliments, forcing your opponent to go where they do not want to is an amazing thing as well as gaining two bonus fate. This community jumped so fast on the band wagon of 'Brad is a traitor and screwed over Scorpion players' it is disgusting. My deck does not have room for more splash cards, I am perfectly happy with what I have now, 3 influence and having to play a bad province is not worth losing two fate and having great back provinces. I highly recommend listening to his interviews as well as ones done with Mark Armitage, it was enlightening when I did.
