More Card Spoilers

No - there isn't enough to make it a main theme. We have a core set and less than a full set of expansions. Be patient.

Kakita Blade is a great duelist action for a game without a lot of support for duelists because it pulls double duty giving a constant boost to MIL. As dueling is expanded we'll see better support cards for it as well.

I don't know if I would say Dueling is the main theme of the Crane clan. It certainly is a main theme, but not the main theme. The focus for this pack is on imperials, which seems to specifically mean Magistrates - as almost every big personality released in these sets has been a Magistrate, if not Imperial. For a big name card, and an Imperial card the Crane are getting Yoshi right now. He could never be tooled as s duelist. Give them time - I'm sure Toshimoko is coming soon.

ps - I don't think Dragon do dueling better than Crane. Dragon probably win duels better than Crane, but Crane don't have to splash to Dragon to duel, and can win by dueling for honor easier than Dragon can. Especially with Way of the Chrysanthemum I'm looking for a Crane Dueling / Honor deck to make a presence.

I did say a main theme... You even quoted me.

I posted tongue in cheek hoping someone could spoil the next however many sets and tell me 'Don't worry, you'll get more dueling/duelists'. For some reason this is perceived as me not understanding something. I fully understand where the game is, what they're doing, who Crane are, etc.

Did you add the tongue in cheek tag to the selected post?

;)

I get that every one has things they want about their clan that aren't fully fleshed out. Heck, I do for the dragon clan. My issue is that nearly every forum/discussion that I read seems to be around 50% things that people want for their clan or things "the clan should do but can't" and it is really starting to get old. I kinda took that out on you, and I'm sorry for that, but when the core set has been officially released for not even 2 full months, we've only gotten 40 additional cards on top of the core thus far, and the card pool is mostly stretched 7 different ways, of course there are going to be thematic holes, and deck archetypes that are insufficiently fleshed out, so why does this seem to be such a shock to people?

People are passionate about the game, so they will always throw what they want and how they feel in alot of their posts. Its tough to like certain aspects of a clan and then not see them show up in the card game, or even have your clan not really show which direction it is going so it feels like its pulling in many directions. I think the thing people need to realize the most is that in O5R most of the core sets (the first set of a new edition) they were 400+ cards, while this games core set is roughly 220 and thats including provinces and role cards. Im sure these posts your upset about will slowly dissipate as more sets come out and they devs get a stronger hold on the game.

Have we seen the Phoenix 'discard the favor' card yet? Or maybe each clan won't get one like I initially assumed.

We have not, as far as I know. Nor have we seen our Otosan Uchi district, nor have we officially seen our magistrate. Given the way things are going, these are all things that seem highly likely to exist for each clan with this cycle, pretty sure the district and magistrate at least were confirmed in the FFG articles to be something every clan gets.

But, the odd thing about the Otosan Uchi district is that there are only 4 Inner City districts, (and about a dozen Outer) and the three we have had spoiled are all from the Inner City. I think that we might only be getting four of those.

I mean, if that means we got Magnificent Lighthouse instead, I'm okay with that. Kinda stinks for other clans that got those deck limit 1 holdings though.

So, looks like some additional cards were leaked on imgur. Crane gets an event to unbow a character who was bowed during conflict resolution of their second declared conflict. And Scorpion gets a 3-cost Courtier with an interrupt to claim the Imperial Favor when it leaves play. The Imperial Palace debuts as a 1 per deck holding with +2 Province Strength and a constant ability that gives you +3 towards your side for each Glory count. And unicorn gets a 1-cost 0/1/0 Courtier that gets +1/+1 while you do NOT have the Imperial Favor.

*Batman’s voice on:

Where are they? WHERE ARE THEY?!!

*Batman’s voice off.

Oooooohhh...

I do wonder how it behaves when a player already has the favour though. Leaving play takes place after lobbying for the favour, so this card could either be pretty crap or quite potent lol

From the text of it, you steal the favour:

"If a card ability causes the Imperial Favor to be claimed, it may be claimed from its unclaimed status, or claimed from a player. Each time the Imperial Favor is claimed, it may be set to either side."

Unicorn getting rewarded for doing everything other clans don't like to do.

Like go first.

Or have the Imperial Favour.

Or win games.

(The last one's a joke)

Aggresive, no time for IP, finds her suitable, I guess. Also, another courtier is nice to make For Shame better option.

The tattoo us interesting. I'm still not sold on Agasha Sumiko. Id rather have Yokuni most of the time, and our 5 cost could / should have been a known iconic character, like Mitsu or Hitomi.

Isn't she the current Topaz Champion?

See it the other way around. She's 5 Fate, she's bound to become iconic. :)

ruby champion.

I am similarly uncertain about using sumiko largely because we already have a rather top-heavy average fate cost dynasty side, and she can't really replace yokuni in basically any viable build at this point, maybe in a non-monk build she could sub in for the ascetic visionary, but that'd still bring the afc up slightly. I do think for her to be truly usable we'd need to be in an environment where dragon are able to obtain and keep the favor much more reliably than we have been, and while with the game largely in flux for a few more weeks we are definitely in a wait and see circumstance on that regard, given what else was spoiled for other clans I'm not sure if we can count on doing that against a few clans at the very least, so she might never be more than a 2x, if she even winds up being justifiable at all.

I like the dragon holding, at least on first blush, it might not be all that great, but I definitely plan to give it a go for a while, probably replace my 2x prodigies with it.

The tattoo is the first thing in the new game that really reminds me of the old style monk shenanigans that made me fall in love with the dragon clan back in late celestial/early emperor arcs, so I am very pleased with it.

Phoenix magistrate was in there, seems pretty powerful. Honor her, and she'll break provinces with just herself and stronghold ability.

I like the tattoo. Oftentimes, the best response to your opponent outmatching you is to try again later.

Does anyone know why Sumiko is champion?

Oh my! What happened to Yokuni now? Did I miss some narrative?

I personally like the card (art, theme, etc), but I don´t think it is good at all, specially if compared with other 5 cost characters...

The Statuary is a different thing. Do have to play it, but at first glance, I think its quite good.

Sumiko isn't the clan champ, that's still yokuni, she has the champion trait because she's the ruby champion of the empire. Why she lacks the imperial trait, I'm uncertain.

I know there are several imperial Champion roles. Could someone who is more knowledgeable with the lore explain what additional roles there are, and what their purpose is? So far they've mentioned the Emerald Champion, but I believe there's also a Topaz champion and maybe a Jade one as well?

Emerald Champion - Leader of the Emerald Magistrates, the Imperial law enforcement agency of Rokugan.

  • Jade Champion - Leader of the Jade Magistrates, Imperial law enforcement specifically concerning magic and arcana. Subordinate to the Emerald Champion.
  • Ruby Champion - Subordinate of the Emerald Champion, tasked with the education of new Emerald Magistrates.

Topaz Champion - Honorary title, bestowed on the winner of the Topaz Championship, the greatest gempukku (coming-of-age ceremony) in Rokugan.

Amethyst Champion - Holder of the Amethyst Crown, a gaijin (foreign) artifact that bestowed great wealth and glory on its wearer, so long as the wearer strove to better the lives of those around him. Appointed by the Imperial Court.

Awesome, thank you!

There were four more Championships, but they didn't exist until after where we are in the current timeline, but I'll mention them anyway.

Obsidian Champion - Tainted counterpart of the Emerald Champion. Created by the Dark Lord Daigotsu to be his chief enforcer/general.

Onyx Champion - Tainted counterpart of the Jade Champion. Created by Daigotsu to lead the efforts to corrupt and Taint the Empire.

Ivory Champion - Created by Otomo Suikihime to serve as the head of the Ivory Magistrates, the law enforcement of the Colonies.

Turquoise Champion - Created by Empress Iweko I. Served as what was essentially the Minister of Culture of Rokugan.
