So my son says to me today “let’s do a campaign! The standard 100/6 game is a little dull.” So we thought about our stuff and he did some internet research and thought the Gozanti campaign would be fun.
The campaign is only three missions, so it’s not a huge commitment.
Imperial player has to take the Gozanti with a few mandatory upgrades and the Rebel player has to take a “wing leader” who is a unique large based ship.
My son picked Imperials. His Goazanti after the mandatory upgrades was about 60 points. That left him about 50 points. His squad had to be up to four of all of the same type that could fit on the ship with clamping docks upgrade (TIE fighter, TIE bombers, TIE Advanced) He picked two Alpha squadron Interceptors and one Avenger Interceptor. He added the Vector title to the Gozanti and Agent Kallus.
For my wingman I wanted something cheaper because it comes out of my squad allowance. That ruled out the MF and the Outrider. So I chose Cassian in the U wing with Push the Limit, Advanced Sensors, Bistan, and Ezra. Then I filled out the squadron with two X wings: Tarn and R7 with IA and a plasma torpedo and Hobbie with targeting astromech with IA and plasma torpedo.
The Rebels are trying to collect satellites or destroy the Gozanti, while the Imps want to kill the Wing Leader.
I stuck to the mission and flew Cassian in a big circle to grab 2/3 of the satellites while my X wings engaged the Interceptors who deployed from the Gozanti on turn 1&2.
Tarn got killed pretty quickly, but managed to take one of the Interceptors with him. Hobbie was a k-turning maniac, picking up TLs, shedding stress, and taking a focus for fully modded shots. I love Targeting Astromech Hobbie.
Meanwhile the Gozanti’s laser turret plunked away at Cassian, and he judiciously used Jam to pile stress on the U wing so it took me forever to swing around.
With a plasma torpedo burning off all of The Gozanti’s shields, he was forced to do the recover action. The next two rounds saw Hobbie and Cassian wear down the Gozanti, plinking shields off and putting on a couple of hull while the Gozanti and the Interceptors managed to take a couple of shields from the U wing and Hobbie.
Then the U wing and Hobbie closed on for the kill. Hobbie pulled a K turn that barely saw him escape being crushed by the assault cruiser. In one round though, Cassian piled on 3 crits and a hit and Hobbie got 4 hits to kill off the Gozanti!
I think my son could have pulled it off if he had ignored the X wings and sent the Interceptors to take out the U wing.
I’m looking forward to the next scenario where I try to take over the Gozanti.
It is so cool getting out the Epic models and playing with thematic lists. Loads of fun!
