Future Unit Speculation

By Indy_com, in Star Wars: Legion

I have seen discussions about the possibility of an AT-AT being introduced in a future wave.

To my knowledge, the rebels don't have a land vehicle large enough to be a good counterpart.

Infantry units such as heavy weapons specialists and long-range snipers seem almost like an inevitably to me, along with stationary/mounted guns like the E-Web.

If anyone can think of a rebel at-at counterpart or has any other speculative thoughts please reply below.

:)

I don't think there is a counter to the at-at. I would however love to see a Hutt sail barge (huge slow flying unit with multiple deck guns), gun skiffs (faster flying units with 360 degree firing arcs), weequay pirates (cheap horde unit) and gammorean guards (heavy close combat unit).

The rebels will get big gun implacements and trenches. They will get quick strike vechile.

We haven't seen many riding beast in the movies but you can bet we will on the tabletop.

Things like freerunners, the heavy tracker, and t4b come to mind.

Of course none are direct 1:1 counters. Also all have scale issues that make them impractical for normal play.

Imade a 1:50 Tracker once as a challenge to myself. Came out consistent with my abilities at the time, but also was so big only a gameboard the size of a garage would have been even close to appropriate.

Many star wars vehicles are oversized for their function and description. WEG especially had trouble grasping how big a meter was...

Of course FFG could reduce the scale of these vehicles and get away with it if they wanted to. The listed sizes are honestly that bad, only a pretty big otaku would seriously complain if things like the Chariot command speeder was reduced in size to what would actually be appropriate.

At best you might see the clone walker tank or gun platform, although that boxes them in for future expansions of different armies.

That said, the atrt is ripped off them already sooo........yeah

AT-TE seems most likely, if they go that route. A Juggernaut is possible too.

The FFG team have established that the rebels are turning to old clone wars tech to bolster their forces against the empire so I wouldn't be surprised if there was more alliance customised clone vehicles for the rebels in future.

An AT-AP would be a viable option for the Rebels. I just don’t see them using any large scale Walkers.

I’d rather seee like the U-Wing or a LAAT to move troops and equipment around the battle field. This would also add a little uniqueness to the armies.

I expect AT-DP and AT-TE walkers, Tauntauns, Dewbacks, the grey Imperial Troop Transport vehicle, T-16 Skyhopper, TX-225 tank, etc.

I assume they'll draw a lot from things we've seen in Star Wars Rebels.

Rebels could get the TF-B:

Or the AAC-1:

They can't go toe-to-toe with an AT-AT, but they will git it a run for its money.

Rebels might also have some old separatist vehicles

While vechilces are big and cool I'm much more looking forward to scout troopers with snipers, rebel commandos, death and shadow troopers. Alien specific units, Bothan infiltrators!?!

And this is where it is going to stay for the time being. With the aimed 800point limits there's no place for units as big as the atat or rebel equivalents *yet*

(i imagine they will do it as a "cinematic play" game type in the same vein as xwing epic)

I think that FFG should go back to some of the original Ralph McQuarrie art for ideas for vehicles

I always loved the hover tanks in the old Star Wars Battlefront games. I'd love to see those in Legion as well, but also some special forces units as well. I would love to see death troopers, commandos etc. Basically infantry units with some abilities and or better weapons.

AT-ATs are much too large to be viable for this game.

Things we could expect for sure:

List of rebel vehicles that could be used:

That Occupier Tank would be awesome!

Don't rule it out just yet. It is the single most iconic ground vehicle in Star wars. I could see a 200 dollar at-at in the future along with an epic scale play format.

With how often it is showing up in Rebels, I'd bet on it coming sooner rather than later.

Yes, but if it is to scale it would be more like a 2.000$ Model

Could you imagine handeling a model of this size on the table?

Well, it might not be PERFECTLY to scale. I think the toy ones are a bit smaller than what's in that photo but the AT-ST's weren't too far off.

Also, they wouldn't have to make the whole vehicle. If memory serves, one of the bigger rebel ships in X-Wing just sits on the edge and provides effects. They could do something similar with the AT-AT to keep it affordable. Just have it be the head or head and neck (neck too might be better if they really are going to put in "weak points") and just have it sit on the edge (personally, I think this would be a cool idea and the way to go- it'd be cheaper, of manageable size, and wouldn't take over the game board and detract from other units). It can shoot, maybe swivel as a move (since there'd just be a front firing arc) and maybe give bonuses or some kind of blanket field effect.

Plus, having a Veers in it as one of your generals would just be cool.

(EDIT: Corellian Corvette. That's the ship I was thinking of. I couldn't remember if it was that or the rebel transport. I own a CC, I should've known this, sorry).

The AT-AT would be aprox 20 inches tall on the board. Huge? Of course. Special rules? Of course. Doable? Heck yes. The cost wouldn't be over $250. Is that a lot of money? Of course. I find it so funny seeing these estimates of thousands of dollars or that it wouldn't fit on a board. You could fit 4 end to end across the long side. Will we actually see one? Who knows. Probably not. But we can all dream.

Honestly, I hope FFG focused on a balanced infantry combat war game and they stay away from "Epic", and if epic sized units happen I hope they don't try to boost up the sales by including must have upgrades in them.
