Future Unit Speculation

The AT-AT would be aprox 20 inches tall on the board. Huge? Of course. Special rules? Of course. Doable? Heck yes. The cost wouldn't be over $250. Is that a lot of money? Of course. I find it so funny seeing these estimates of thousands of dollars or that it wouldn't fit on a board. You could fit 4 end to end across the long side. Will we actually see one? Who knows. Probably not. But we can all dream.

The biggest issue it faces is going to be the height and not flattening/breaking half an army every time one gets knocked over....

I could quite happily do without an AT-AT. If they make one, maybe I'll get it but I'm not gonna feel any type of way if they don't

I would love an AT-AT but I doubt we will see one in the near future. The game is designed to be mostly infantry with some vehicles and something as colossal as an AT-AT would kind of break the system, that and you need a bigger table to play it on. I wouldn't be surprised at a one off scenario or it gets handled like those big ships in X-Wing once the game gets established. I would want one just because but that's just me.

I haven't read the rules but I can see them going in the direction of having themed forces in the future once they start getting a variety of product out there. A themed snow trooper force has access to E-Webs and certain specialized units. A force of Shore Troopers gets better movement and X. Generic storm trooper force has access to these units. Same for the Rebels and their special units.

As for units I can definitely see many more of the older smaller tanks, mounts, and so forth coming out. There is so much out there between the movies, games, comics, cartoons, and WEG books that they could spend years even concentrating on a particular time period. I fully expect that tank in Rogue 1 to make an appearance along with some of the Rebel tanks. I have never been impressed with Imperial tanks so I hope they concentrate on the walker concept just to differentiate the Rebels from the Imperials.

This is my first post on this forum, surprised I haven't seen any tutorials yet on painting white, the most difficult color to paint miniatures in. Also surprised for that reason alone these aren't prepaints. Even experienced painters are going to be showing just how bad we are at painting white lol.

I never said it won't fit on the board but it would be very hard to mov it around without knocking over other minis and terrain all the time and it would be a hassle to transport. The mass of the miniature would be compareable to two forgeworld reaver titans which cost something like 600$ a pice. People keep thinking a Legion AT-AT would be compareable to the Epic ships in Legion but it isn't! It is would be much larger, it would be like trying to introduce a Victory class STD to X-Wing which isn't imposiible for a dedicated hobbyist https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/259511-introducing-the-preemptive-strike-a-pocket-star-destroyer/ but not viable fo4r the mass market.

I think you are correct mostly, but I think we will still see one. The market demand is there as it is one of the most iconic Imperial ground vehicles. Done in plastic it will be lightweight. Having legs that detach will make it easier to transport. It is roughly 33 meters tall. So it is doable in game in scale just not a normal pick up game. I have zero doubt we will one day see one for Legion but likely they will wait to see how the game sells(and it will likely sell fairly well as many of us wargamers have been waiting years for a good Star Wars game) and will likely be a few expansions down the road. Right now there isn't anything really that can fight one.

What would you expect to play with an AT-AT? It is a very huge vehicle, hard to turn, with only forward firepower. (It can turn its head , but it should be hardly be able to shoot behind its shoulders .) So every time an AT-AT is on board all rebel units try to get past this monster, to avoid its cannons and to attack from behind. The AT-AT-player will try to stay with it in a corner to counter that strategy.
As much as I like it in the films, but I couldn't think of it as a good unit in Legion.

(OP)

Considering the AT-AT was a transport vehicle, it could be used to bring more units to the fight.

For example;

The imperial player uses an at-at as a heavy frontal attacker in the early stages of the round,

the rebel player destroys it last out of all imperial units,

once the at-at is destroyed the imperial player deploys either a squad of troopers or a speeder bike behind where the at-at was destroyed.

Let the imperial player stay with it in a corner.

Legion will be about objectives , and at which point, they're leaving a major shooter at the edge of the board with no actual range to anything , a significant waste of ponits.

That's my point!

That is actually a showing in its favour , because the Imperial player will have to be aggressive with it.

Saying that the entire point of its counter-gameplay is Rebels rushing behind it is... well... If that's a bad thing , why is the AT-ST even there, because that's whats going to happen with it too, right?

I would think it's easier to turn around an AT-ST than an AT-AT. And it should be easier to have points left to put a back up in your list. What do you think?
(Maybe you need Antilles in your AT-AT for a 180 degree flip?)

The WOTC AT-AT released in 2005 was $50 RRP. It's definitely within the realms of possibility.

If the AT-AT does make it to the table, I imagine it’ll have a rule like the speeders requiring it to make a compulsory move each activation. Making it easier to get behind.

Everyone keeps talking Rebels vs AT-AT what about AT-AT vs. AT-AT? That’s something I’d like to see.
