Celestial Repaints

By Celestial Lizards, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

I need a backstory for this thing. Either it's a prototype shuttle that doesn't have it's full paint, or a crime lord found it in a scrapyard and rebuilt it as his own luxury shuttle.

A spec ops Deci. I know the cockpit paint isn't amazing, but it still looks pretty good. I added two white geckos to the wings.

Backstory for the Oopsilon: It was stolen from the First Order after they stopped for repairs after the battle at Star Killer Base. It has since been repaired and retrofitted. With fuzzy dice.

The ships look good. Just remember to thin your paints!

Possibly a bounty hunter stole it and remodeled it into his flagship, using it as an ECM shuttle, comfort craft, and heavy attack platform.

Go Metallic. It works wonders for small details and looks almost identical to paint when it drys. Doesnt have any of the streaking you get with a normal black sharpie since it layers the ink on smoothly.

The ships have yellow-tinted windows to help resist the high pressure planet of Quarzite, where the unit is located.

Subspace Autothruster System (SAS)TIE Phantom.

Now I just need some decent Phantom builds for it!

Please excuse the model airport in the background! :P

I can't decide whether to paint my GUNBOATS in the scheme of the rest of my squadron, to match the card art, or to match the Lambda.

How about one of each?

I'm only getting two.

Edit: All the repaints after this post are actually my doing.

It awaits two new Assault Gunboats in the same scheme.

Hold the camera steady; rest it on something if you can. If not, use two hands on it and hold your breath when you snap the picture.

Make sure your light source is behind you (over your shoulder or thereabout).

Don't bring your camera right up to the subject, as you'll distort the image--it's better to zoom in a little.

If possible, place the subject in front of a neutral background.

I take pictures of small objects for work on a semi-regular basis. This is all good advice.

EDIT:

Adding some soft light (slightly indirect, or diffused) is a great way to make the model pop in photos.

With the tools I have available to me at work, I usually have to hold a piece of white paper against a flashlight to allow the light reflecting off the paper to light the objects I am trying to illuminate in photos.

One more suggestion for better pictures:

For models that size, put them on top of a single color item, like a bed-sheet or large piece of paper. The lack of background detail will also help your camera's auto-focus feature not attempt to hone in on the background, but instead the models.

I use a homemade lightbox. There are many tutorials online, and I will post some here when I'm not on the phone.

Blaze Squadron (Special Forces): Blaze 2: " Cerberus "

I've got two more in the works! The squadron leader will have ace stripes instead of full red.
