Boy that was some quality viewing. Glad the had that 2 minute wrap-up at the end. Really dug the use of all the OT music themes.
Rebels Season 4
WARNING...WARNING...RANT INCOMING...
The finale sucked. I couldn't have been much more displeased. If you've seen it, read on. If not...well, I can't really recommend watching it. For my reasons see the spoiler-filled text below:
- The wolves . The wolves have been a bit too conveniently present for several episodes now, and it only got worse in the finale episodes.
- Governor Pryce . Governor Pryce has become comically idiotic in the last episodes. I understand that she's politics, not military, but then she shouldn't be repeatedly depicted leading attacks...and failing miserably. The only good news was that Pryce got a nice death scene - so good, in fact, that I think Thrawn should have had it instead of the squid-thingy scene...more on this later.
- Pointless sacrifice . Why did Ezra have to stay behind on the Chimaera ? It looks like his squid buddies have everything in control...
- and on the contrary to #3, we have: Revenge of the Plot Armor . I don't think I even need to explain this one...
- Everything has a convenient self-destruct button...even massive building/space stations. Also no explanation needed.
- Bad ending to the Thrawn storyline . It just doesn't match the character of Thrawn to get sucked out a window by giant space-creature tentacles. The assassination scene in The Last Command is much more believable...and realistic.
- No Dreadnaught-class or Vindicator-class heavy cruisers. We didn't even get a freaking Arquitens.
- The Ezra/Emperor Palpatine scene... was good unless you realize it's basically the scene with Anakin from ROTS but with Ezra's parents instead of Padme and Ezra is conveniently strong enough to resist His Majesty the Emperor's influence...which the 'Chosen One' himself couldn't resist
- Unrealistic casualties. Let's do the numbers: 5 ISDs in orbit, 3 ISDs in atmo, and a few giant station/building things. Basically we're looking at 300,000 or more Imperials killed...and this just gets swept under the rug to make "our favorite Rebels" look better.
- Insult to Legends fans (like me) . Notice that Thrawn's Noghri is named Rukh, and he calls a "Captain Pellaeon" on the comlink...who we hear for about 2 seconds. This is just pouring salt in the wound about these characters no longer being Canon. We don't even get new canon characters like Eli Vanto...
- The station's debris when it self-destructed would have destroyed the city ...so much for Physics.
- Giant squid-whale-things from space that CONVENIENTLY show up exactly when called. These are an even bigger deus ex machina ('god from the machine', a term for an all-powerful god or similar presence tying up a whole bunch of loose plot ends at once) than the wolves...and that is saying something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we've never seen them before...and now they just won the war for Lothal single-tentacledly.
Ah well. The only good parts were the Emperor's music (just like it was in ROTJ), Gregor's death (rest in peace, trooper), and Hondo Ohnaka (some things never get old).
As for my thoughts on this as canon...
That's that. Rant over....

... it was so artfully done.
I enjoyed it, but I’m the guy who looks to be entertained, and the entire series was entertaining. Disappointed to see Thrawn go, but what are you going to do.
Probably won’t happen, but i’d Like to see Thrawn return in the sequel era with a new faction. A Chiss / Imperial remnant opposed to both the Resistance and First Order, with... Dun Dun Dah... Ezra as the leader of a new Group of Force users.
With both the First Order and Resistance ravaged by the war, will they be able to stand against this new threat? With a faction much cooler than the two we have now, who will the fandom root for?

Meh, politicians love to take control of armed forces, whether they are capable or not. Happens all the time.
I'm not sure if it was a self-destruct button per se. . . did they say 'button'? It may have been as simple as overloading some engine coiols to overheat and explode, causing a chain reaction.
We did see the space whales before, in another episode WAY back, when they were eating the gas the Empire was harvesting as fuel.
How was it an insult? I mean, they're now canon. . . isn't that a good thing? We don't even know if Pellaeon is dead (if he is, that would be disappointing, I agree)
[/Spoilers]
nvm need to figure out how to do the hiding stuff before I post anything

My point about Pellaeon is that they brought him up then had his voice dissolve into static (universal TV show language for "died while on the phone". Plus they said all the ISDs were destroyed...

Ooh...this sounds like fun. A Thrawn/Chiss/Empire faction would be probably the 'nation' I'd most like to root for in a new movie.
Ok, I'm going to say that, I've staunchly supported Rebels, and defended it at just about every turn and enjoyed the show through even some of the stranger episodes.
It's a real shame that the worst episode is the last episode. They really hit the Deus Ex Machina button HARD on this one and it was singularly unsatisfying. Pretty much nothing they did in the finale made me go "oh hey cool, that was a neat idea." Season started out on a GREAT foot and threw itself straight down the *****.

Just remove the spaces between the brackets and the words within.
I personally was meh on the final episode. I agree with some of the complaints below, but know that it's just a fun TV show and that my kids really enjoyed it.
But to me, the highlight was:
when they confirmed that Captain Rex, hero of the Clone Wars, fought at the Battle of Endor.
Honestly, I thought it wrapped up pretty well for the main part, and the intentional loose ends weren't too bad.
Especially when compounded by Filoni's interviews that are cropping up now.

And I mean... Great overall Technicality. Scarif is still the Rebel Alliances' first blow against the empire... Because this wasn't the doing of the Alliance ...
That's some of the best technically correct stuff right there. Rules Lawyer Approved.
Unrelated note:
Interviews confirm Ezra / Thrawn survive.
More importantly, Capt. Pellaeon survives.

In that case, I'm not so bothered about the ending...
I just wish they could have come up with a better solution than space-whales.
I'm a little surprised no one has thought yet about Purrgil units for Armada.
You'd have the basic unit, a whale, with the heavier class "slightly larger whale," and scout units in the form of "not yet fully grown whale."
What they lack in ranged options, they make up for by being impervious to turbo laser turrets, and having the ability to remove Imperial planetary blockades off camera before they can so much as radio a distress call.

Yeah digging ideas out of the Lando Calrissian Adventures can't end well IMO.
