It's not that I don't appreciate articles and news... But they really could have spaced all these things out a bit better :D.

This picture is sooo cool

Like all 101 articles, the ships are all missing some great things that would make them better. Just using those 3 ships and sticking to the article's upgrades a free guidance chips for Jake, trick shot for Kyle Katarn, and integrated astromech for Poe is an immediate boost. I really don't like weapon guidance with Poe, I think the repositioning at PS 8 to avoid shots isn't even all that likely in beginner games with so many turreted ships so spending Poe's focus on offense feels like a usually poor decision with his ability, especially when he can Target Lock often with 3 actions. And of course wired for Jake is not a great EPT but there's not a lot of choices given the 101 constraints.

Showing the BB-8 and PtL interaction is nice for people starting to dig into the game a little but who are still pretty new and might miss such interactions, same with it talking about the ability for Jake and Kyle to interact to give Jake a maneuver in the beginning of the combat round.

But then you would have to buy the Inquisitor/Punishing One and HotR. And that’s more than 101 dollars. Shame on you for trying to break the rules.

Of course you could snag those on eBay or something, but FFG would never put that in an article.

also my 101 article would be GUMBOAT x 5 and a discounted core of your choice.

I still would like to try 4 TLT HWK-290s with Pulse Ray Shielding and two Tacticians. One day ...

Why recommend a HWK over a Y-wing for a turreted ship?

Good question, actually.

My thoughts:

1. Crew slot

2. Shield Mod to regen a shield

3. Different ship. Y-wings are very common at tables. Variety is the spice, and all.

4. Roark's ability is really good if you run lists that try to zap Expertise opponents.

5. Jan's ability is very good as well, I think.

6. Kyle's ability is always useful.

Scopes makes some great points. Also, Y-Wings still out of print, right?

Think they're being reprinted .. but still, how many Rebel HWKs do you see on tables vs Y-wings? Which is more iconic?

Don't get me wrong, I love the HWK even though the current ship is a bit lacking ... but for new players I would definitely have recommended a Y-wing.

I like that through this article FFG had to officially and publicly recognize Cryodex's existence, that's fun.

Yeah, but don't they mostly have TLT and/or R3-A2? Not very conducive to X-wing 101. I like seeing the HWK get some representation, but I agree that Flying a T-70 X-wing, an A-wing, and a Y-wing definitely tips the scales in iconicness.

Yeah, I agree, all I meant is that I don’t think the 101 articles are allowed to suggest buying something that’s out of stock.

One of them suggested a K-Wing so I don't think out of stock matters for a 101 article.

Y-wings are back in stock. At least, in the Twin Cities market. I just saw a de wss if them at FFG Game center this week.

I know, but they weren't when the 101 article with Esege was out. So out of stock didn't affect the past article.

FYI, in stock or out of stock has no bearing on the ships included in the article. I chose the list as a nod to Zach Bart and his 2015 regionals list. A solid all around list showing the power of rebel synergy and action economy.
