Because we totally need to talk about Tournament points

They are heroes cause they did the improbable. A 40 point hero taking a 100 point dragon down is improbable.

That's why we don't need 100 point dragons. Besides heroes are supposed to die, that's how you become a hero. Ours are more destined to be variety.

The only way i'd want to see a single model be worth more than 50pts w/o upgrades is if it was only for higher than 200pts.

Only reason people deal with Maro being that expensive is hes a backliner so usually if hes caught you lost anyway. A dragon would not be a backliner so its going to get attacked a lot.

Aren't there quite a few folks here using Maro as a front liner? The worm block guys.

i've never seen him except either an upgrade fig or sitting behind units with Heartseeker or on the side of them with another relic.

ymmv i guess

That surprises me greatly. Maro with Violent Forces and Fortuna's Dice has been making the rounds. He's a great ranged unit, but you're right that he needs to have some kind of cover from charges, just like regular archers.

Re: dragons, I like the comparison with heroes. Using that benchmark, I could see dragons fitting easily into this game. The largest unit so far is 60 points or so, and that seems like a good start, just a little challenging for heroes. I really like the look of the dragon on the cover of Runebound:

Not very big, but unquestionably a dragon. This would fit well, I think.

IDK if it’s crawling around a building like that it’s probably pretty big. Looks like a 5-6 story tower too.

Drakes and Elder Dragons

theres like ... what 15 or so different types of dragons usually in the same universe were talking about?

Most of them usually when theyre that big they are literally the oldest dragon of their kind, centuries old if not older. Somehow i doubt something like that would be in a tabletop game...its offspring however...

As someone who's a big fan of D&D Attack Wing, you can easily have a balanced game with large dragons and smaller troops. The big dragons might be powerful, but there's only one of them compared to all the man-sized models. It makes it very hard to grab objectives (compared to the small units that run rings around you), and once you start getting status conditions piled on you, you're in serious trouble. A skilled player could easily isolate and cripple a powerful dragon, or just bog them down in combat whilst everything else scored the objectives.

Personally, I'd love some dragons in the game; my fingers are crossed that the rumour of a dragonmen army is true and we'll get some nice monsters out of it!

So far we don't know if there will be any more armies past the initial 4.

If there are, likely not for a good long while.

Like I said, any dragon worth fighting. Smaug, Tiamat, Ballerion.

AT-ST is 9 meters tall. Even the Hungarian Horntail from Harry Potter is 15 meters, and he’s a tiny dragon. Smaug is estimated to be 60 meters, and Ballerion the dread is estimated to be 76 meters.

So any dragon worth fighting is let’s say 20 meters or greater, you know, the length of an AT-AT. I could’ve went with 22 meters, or the height of an AT-AT but I’ll be generous.

9 meters is a baby dragon. Do you like to hit babies?

Still ignoring the big greedy white monster in the room, Warhammer fantasy and other games like Kings of War, Wrath of Kings etc., etc., who all have ridden dragons in their games.... what's your size calculations for those :P ?

First admit your google-fu is white belt level. Then a 2 second search reveals a chart already calculated:

Next time bring something stronger.

Apologies for the crap lighting, but here's a warpfire dragon and a carnosaur (from Warhammer Fantasy) next to some Latari archers and Maro. I think the dragons would end up around carnosaur size, and be 1x2 base size. Probably not with a scenic base like characters though, since as you can see with the warpfire dragon, elevating big models makes things look ridiculous at a Runewars scale.

You misunderstood, I was not asking for a source, I was using sarcasm to get you to use an actual creditable comparison... <_<

What is even happening here?

I just want the word Runedragon to pop up at some point.
