FUD Assault Frigates, how "delicate" are they?

By coastcityo, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Just wondering, as I'm seriously considering taking the plunge for an Assault Frigate mk1. I keep hearing that FUD is great for detail, but can be somewhat delicate as a material. Could people share their tabletop experiences with the FUD AssFrig, as to wether I need to worry about it breaking fairly easily, or only if I'm bouncing it off the floor.

I just want to make the most informed decision before buying it, painting it up, and then pushing it around the table while making "pew pew" sounds. Will FUD stand up long term as the Assault Frigate, or will I be looking to replace it soonish from normal wear and tear in the transport and tabletop play.

thank you, one and all that can respond.

The Assault Frigates are very sturdy. The main problem with FUD is stuff like cannons or antennas and this one has none. Even in the Mark VI the body is thick enough to not have any problems.

Well I have not had my MK 1 Type VI for long but it is plenty sturdy as far as I can tell. There are 2 antenna like pieces on the fins but they are relatively thick. They should be fine for regular game play but I wouldn't want to bounce it off the floor as you describe.

I too was a little worried about the fragility of the material before buying in but I wouldn't worry it isn't like it's a thin lattice work of sugar we are dealing with. It is relatively robust.

Forgot to mention, I also have a couple of the Surveillance Gozanti's. They have very whispy antenna and they are just fine as well, definitely would not survive a 2.5 foot fall from a table but robust enough I don't worry too much about them otherwise just pack carefully when traveling.

Mel's are very durable, a lot thicker than Tsalt's. I've got two of Tsalt's and both of them I broke front bit assembling them. Plus the detail on Mel's AF is far more defined than on Tsalt's.

Thank you all for the replies. It sounds like a shopping trip for Mel's Assault Frigate in FUD is on my to do list.

I broke a FUD Lambda shuttle top wing, more by crushing than dropping, it glued very well, it's not distinguishable from the others.

I dropped all my FUD models from painting table at least twice (I'm clumsy); no damage.

FUD is not glass brittle, more PVC brittle, it does not resist very well continuous stress, but the occasional impact is ok.

don't overdo it, anyway, it won't resist a good hammering <_<

I concur. I have some X-Wing scale items that have broken the odd bit - they've always glued together nicely - but they have quite a bit more mass. I have a variant CR90 (the Sundered Heart ) and some squadrons in Armada-size and they're so light that a couple of drops hasn't seemed to faze them.

The Assault Frigate in FUD has stood up fine for a year now. If you have concerns about drops or transportation damage I would go with black acrylate. Otherwise FUD is an excellent material. The best detail wise.

The only ones I've ever broken were the pegs on the bottom and I'm pretty sure my clumsiness would have broken them no matter what material you use.
