I remember first reading palatine's card and freaking out about how cool it was that his "Emperor" ability simply stated figure, NOT friendly figure, insinuating that he could command anybody, even have a rebel shoot his friend. I also found it nice that his "tempt" ability was a great way of finishing off enemies who you roll 1 damage off killing. After F.F.G. released his command card i was a bit confused, it says; "Use when you use 'emperor.' You many choose any other friendly figure on the map instead of another friendly figure within 4 spaces". To me it seems like this card is implying that his "emperor" ability only works on friendlies even though "emperor" says broadly:"choose another figure within 4 spaces". Am I missing something here, can "emperor" be used on enemies, how about "tempt". Thanks for taking the time to read and respond to my probably dumb question

Tempt can be used on hostile figures as well. A nice non-blockable damage to finish a hostile figure.

What are your thoughts on this vs the fact that other "mandatory" effects can be ignored in tournament play, like Blaise's ability?
The situation hasn't changed. Both players are responsible for the correct game state and thus seeing that mandatory effects are resolved, but it's not enforceable because there are no penalties defined.
I'm not a skirmish player (yet?), so I have little ideas about how to 'fix' the situation.

Maybe this one is a little different. The exact card text says "A figure of your choice." Can you choose no figure?
I think it makes the most sense for this to be an optional ability.
One figure of your choice cannot be 0 figures or 2 or more figures.
It seems fitting thematically to be a mandatory ability.
(Not sure of the intent.)
