Are models too simple?

By Andreu, in Star Wars: Legion

I understand FFG wants an accessible game so not so much assembly as GW will be needed.

Thing is that until yesterday the units shown looked good due to the nature of them humanoids and non-enclosed vehicle chasis. But with the heavy vehicles I can't but wonder how much better they will look if they weren't such a solid plastic block and had more components.

The windows of the AT-ST don't have a hole which being quite simple to have will offer great depth. The Airspeeder will definitely look better if it had some transparent plastic assembly for the canopy showing then some of the interior (if you r not up to the task you can still paint over it).

GW models are over the top but maybe some compromise... In the end, 50 bucks is not so cheap.

GW is also all-in by decades. This is FFGs what? Second wargame?

GWs stuff is almost always going to be better because it's basically the only thing they do, and really have done, for years. Without the models they aren't much of anything.

If FFG is still making Legion in 2050 I bet the model quality will be amazing, and GW will have app controlled talking Ultaris Primus Superioratis Space Marine models that cost $80 a guy...

When did you get hands on to see the quality? 40k models are way more expensive to have the quality they do. 100 dollars or more for a single model is becoming common with 40k

Right, my bad, the talking Ultaris Primus Superioratis Space Marine will be $100 a guy and only be sold on GWs webstore.

Considering how new FFG is to the field I think the models look quite nice.

I think comparing FFG to GW is stupid as the former is a game company and the latter is a model company.

Well now I just feel foolish for actually playing Blood Bowl.

Not sure what FFG's age has to do with this. Advances in technology should give any game company a decisive edge. I am in agreement with the naysayers. These models like depth. And that lack torpedoes their price point and turns this into a pay to win game. Sorry but that is just not cool. I've given this more thought than I should have. FFG is producing a game and adhering to industry standards in its pricing. Rather than innovating and being an industry leader it is in step with its competitors. Now, will I buy it? Ueaj but grudgingly. Will I invest in this high dollar models? Not bloody likely when there are alternatives that look great and are a fraction of the cost.

And yeahx I know it makes me the cranky one in the room but come on. GW can't justify its pricing and I don't think FFG can either. There. I said it. Laen. Off. And all that jazz.

Don’t worry just buy the Ban-Dai and the FFG models. That way you will have a kit that blows away GW models and a bunch of game components that blow away GW rulebooks.

the combined price is comparable to GW but a little lower!

Remember the mouse has to get his cut and the mouse does look at MSRP and product accessibility. GW is way over priced for what they sell. Many people are already put off by the current price point.

I abandoned GW way back when Lord of the Rings miniatures went from $6 for a blister pack of 3 to $7 for a pack of 3... I just checked a few seconds ago. A beorn miniature, essentially a tall shirtless guy with an axe: $25.

Yeah...when GW came out with the Hobbit war game I was tempted to buys it, since I had all the LotR minis...but it was so **** expensive.

I think I like FFGs strategy so far, but I’ll have to see the minis first to really decide.
