I wouldn't mind two release waves each year, with one wave being new expansions for existing ships (Partisan X-Wing, a mixed Rebel/Scum Y-Wing, and so forth), and one expansion being new-new ships. It does feel like they're scraping the barrel more for new ships to release, so doing fewer of these might be OK.
Does this game still need new ships? What would it look like without them?

That new tech upgrade that lets you keep your focus, on the other hand...
Hmm? Poe in Plot Armor has usually regen. Intensity, Prime Thrusters, Autothrusters, Black One, and R2-D2.
There is a variant with BB-8 sure, but there are always tons of variants on metawing ;-)
New ships can be fun but we have so many already, I rather see fewer new ships but added pilots and options.
Ships like the Y-wing could use more pilots and tie interceptor and b-wing could use a new title or mod.
Still fun too get new ships, but most roles now have 2-7 ships as possible fillers. It's getting crowded
I understand the original posts sentiments. I've managed to avoid that feeling and I don't know how. I just really enjoy the game so I am happy to be flying my ships.
I don't like the idea of just re-releasing ships, because then it introduces a lot of issues to be solved (new dials and cardboard for all the old ships being a huge part of that). Why is Ywing II so much better than the original? Well mechanics creep is why. But then what do they do with all the old Ys out there? Would You II also come with scum dials since they have access to the Ywing as well?
The solution to me is not stop making ships entirely or to start making 2.0 of the classics. The solution is to just have limited event formats. Want to see only OT? Ok, wave 1-3 ships only at this event. Done. Season to taste. Or fly HotAC since that's all about the classics.
Nobody said the only place you could play was at your FLGS open ended 100/6 tournament.
We're getting to a point where there aren't many ships left to make that fit the theme of the game. We have 4 movies left that we know of, so there may be a few gems in there as well as whatever crops up in this final season of Rebels and the next show.
Woo, fine. Great. Then what?
I think we'll get new versions of old ships with new toys and pilots for them. I mean, the next wave has two extremely solid mechanics that would be baller on older ships!
Bullseye is very interesting and I think it would be amazing on classic TIE Fighters and Interceptors. Sure, it doesn't help their survivability, but it would make them a more appealing choice (sure, it's not printed on the card board, but that hasn't stopped FFG before! Just use the nubs!). This could be illustrated on a new rule card that comes with a new Imperial expansion that comes with a TIE Fighter or Interceptor
The reload action could go on almost any heavy fighter/bomber... but have it only affect missiles and torpedoes. Look, I love my bombs, but I don't want to see the mat filled with cluster mines. TIE Bombers, Punishers, and B-wings would get a solid bump, ****, even the Firespray, but I'd leave the Y-Wing off the list of ships to get this. I think reload PLUS the turret would be too much. Maybe have the reload mechanism take up a missile or torpedo slot. This could honestly be an upgrade card that comes with any new bomber in the future.
I'd like to see Imperials gain access to a system or mod that allows them to regen shields. Pack this in with a new Imperial set.
T-65 title that gives it access to s loops (keep it different from the T-70) or allows up to two modifications (point reduction maybe?)
So, yeah, while there's still room in the game to add more ships, there's way more potential in looking back and enhancing the existing stock!

I want to start this off by saying that I’m not a doom-prognosticator, and I do not have an abnormally high saline content today. I also want to say that I’m still very much enjoying the game, and I like seeing where all the new mechanics are going.
That being said, I sometimes find it very hard to really enjoy playing this game. Until recently, I thought that it was just the power creep in the game. But if you actually look at it, what did the recent FAQ (deservedly so, I might add) nerf? Biggs Darklighter is from the core set, K-Wings are from Wave VII, JM5Ks are from Wave VIII, and Nym is from Wave XI. The meta-wing stats show a number of Wave VII and VIII ships as the worst ships in the game (Kihraxz, Punisher, G1-A). Both of those sets show a pretty fair distribution of the good and bad ships in the game throughout time.
So what is it that’s hampering my love for the game? Is it not winning? True, it’s harder and harder to build a winning list with so many cards and combinations in the game, but I’ve never minded losing before... and I actually like the game’s complexity with all the new mechanics!
So what is it? I finally realized that the one thing I don’t like about this game is the fact that the good ships seem to all be taken already. I like diversity, but 50 ship types seems like plenty. And the fact that all the most powerful ships in the game are from officially non-canonical sources seems a little weird to me. I really want to see the ships I know from Star Wars - X-Wings, Y-Wings, A-Wings, and B-Wings (with the odd U-Wing) versus TIE Fighters, Bombers, Interceptors, and Advanced. Don’t get me wrong, I like variety, but I’d like it if about 50% of the winning lists comprised solely of the ships I just listed.
I get that letting Scum crash the party changes stuff, and I like a third faction from a game-design perspective. Therefore, I like all the ships in the Most Wanted pack, too, and I like seeing all the classic Empire Strikes Back bounty hunters (within reason, Dengar!).
But now, it feels like the game has peaked. We’re supposed to be getting excited over obscure video game releases like the Gunboat and Caligula, and less-famous Rebels ships like the Phantom II. Don’t get me wrong, I like seeing any new additions to the game, but after a while, it doesn’t feel like Star Wars anymore.
So how do we fix this? I’d like to see more releases for the same ships. I’d actually like it if we were pretty much done with expansions! I would be very happy if waves went to a once-per-year schedule, an most of the products sold were reprints.
So then how would FFG grow the game? What would we buy? My idea is to have expansions for expansions, or more expansions of the same ship! I had a dream (an actual dream, while I was sleeping) a year or so ago, that I walked into a game store and saw “A-Wing Expansion II” on the shelf! I was so excited! Basically, my idea is that they could add new pilots, titles, and upgrades for the same ships, in new expansion packs, but keep using the same ships! So for example, “Y-Wing Expansion II” would contain a Rebel Y-Wing, two dials, a title that lets Y-Wings use the second, new dial, and gives them new upgrades, and new pilots like Evaan Verlaine, Keyan Farlander, Ace Azzameen, etc... alternatively, they could release packs with new dials, tokens and cards, but no ship, that said “this product is not a complete game experience. Requires a copy of the X-Wing Miniatures core set and the Y-Wing expansion pack to play.”
Basically, I love the game, and I want FFG to keep releasing products, but next time they want to add a new game mechanic, I want it to be through a real, canonical, Star Wars ship!
How about you? What do you think?
I think there are plenty of ships at this time. I’d like to see some new pilots for existing ships, perhaps an Academy Pack (a new graduate class for imps and rebs). That could insert some life into lesser used ships like the Y and B wings. They could also release some new titles that could beef up some older ships (I’m looking at you T-65 and TIE Advanced).

Hey what about Hera’s A-wing?!
Chronologically speaking:
Two seat A-wing Fighter from Droids
Pheonix Squadron A-wing Fighter
RotJ A-wing Interceptor
TLJ A-wing Interceptor(?)
Appearantly they are all designated RZ-1, I really don’t get it. The larger A-wings are definitely Fighters while the smaller ones are interceptors as seen in all the material that came out with ROTJ.
I miss the R-22 Spearhead.

Negative, ghostrider. At least in the canon, anyway.
The A-Wing in Rebels is the original RZ-1. There's also a two-seater model in Rebels also which is a trainer, the RZ-1T. The ROTJ A-Wings are also RZ-1s, but they have been heavily modified by Rebel engineers of stripped of some plating and components, but they are intended to be the same hull-size as the original model - they're just faster without some of the additional armor, or heavier weapons. TLJ A-Wings are RZ-2 models.
@UnitOmega oh, ok. So I guess the Droids A-wing is the RZ-1T retroactively.
there is still a huge size discrepancy argument about the A-wing and whether the FFG model really is to scale. Well, not huge, more like a minor topic among huge nerds.
