We need new commanders

To be honest, there's usually a good number of minor officers in the Star Wars universe. Maybe not as many now that they've tossed the EU, but still. There's plenty of background officers, ones from books, video games, tv shows, comics, etc. They have names and enough info to make cards but they're not major characters or anything. If anything, I expect something like that as a compromise. They're a lot cheaper, the same as the "generic" ones you guys have mentioned, but still have that name and flavor behind it.

Even if they don't go that route, I figure the cost of the commander reflects their strength/abilities. Not everyone is a force user, and not all of them- even Luke- are going to be as strong as Vader.

I was wondering if you could make a full list of nothing but a commander and troopers but from what I've seen where people talked about lists and costs, that may not be possible. Blast. On the plus side, I don't have an excuse to buy 12-15 packs of troopers now so at least my wallet is happy.

Oh it's possible, but there's padding.

+ side for your wallet is even if you go that route you only need 4 trooper packs + the core to max it out (6 basic trooper units is the max in std games based on info we know)

I was t hinking more just the absolute basic troopers, not with "maxed out" troopers. They limited the number of troopers to 6, so you can't do a full swarm of them like I was thinking might be fun/trolly (i.e. Just your 160 commander Luke and 640 points worth of JUST the 40 point troopers- which would be... 16 units, I think, a little less if I turn some of those into 5-man units with the extra trooper option). I am glad I found the unit limits/requirements posted on here though- it means I have to buy one less of the heavies since you can't fit 3 on a legal 800pt list (you guys saved me $80, yay! lol)

That does raise a question I had about one of the setup cards. It said something about having two troop units in reserve and adding them after a few turns. I couldn't figure out if, for say a 6 not list, that it meant you started with 4 on the table and added two later, or if you started with six and got bumped up to 8. Everyone that said they'd link the cards under their Youtube video failed to do so >_>

Set up cards *should* just be there to affect set-up, not army composition. So I would strongly assume this allows you to hold back two of your existing units in reserve. This has the downside that you’ve got fewer guns on the table, but allows you to react to your opponent’s set up and opening moves.

I think having sixteen units that could claim objectives (even if they are sixteen really squishy units) might have been broken...

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but I want to see a Commander Squad . Something like Twilight Company or Inferno Squad - clearly designed to operate as a squad in combat, but also clearly Commanders on the field of battle.

Give just the basic commander unit, whoever that may be. Then give them several Soldier or Heavy slots, with named characters (with "Commander X only") that can be added as if the commander was a squad card.

Might be an interesting way to give you a commander who isn't super tough, and can start cheap, but can get more powerful if you want to spend the points on them.

And while, yes, this probably would work better as a Spec Ops unit, I still think that it would be a unique way to add variety later on.

Agree with this idea. In an hypotetically future Scum faction, that can be done with Jabba and his Gamorrean scort.

This please!

Would you paint it with a brown or blue jacket?

I'd almost guarantee that the second imperial commander will be Boba Fett.

I'm sure we'll get more. But i have to say....do we really NEED more commanders before the game is even out?

I can think of a lot of stuff we need more. Like...the game.

I don't think we need an overwhelming number of commanders, but since we are allowed to field two... one seems to be one too few. Having a lower cost commander on each side in addition to the higher cost Vader and Luke would create a lot more options out of the box for diverse lists.

100%. A second, lower cost commander for each faction is probably the single-most impactful thing they can add to the game to increase army diversity in the early days where there are few units.

I can't see it being so gimmicky. So far, this is a faction focused on the Imperial Military - the second commander will almost certainly be an Imperial officer. I am betting on General Veers, but there are plenty of options.

I'm down with generic commanders or expanded universe folks.

A far as BH goes....new faction would be cool to join either side i think. IDK about Bobba Fett being a commander....for like an Elite warrior on the battlefield.

My personal preference would be to have the 6 major armies from the 3 major trilogies (Republic, Separatists, Rebels, Empire, Resistance, First Order) as the "factions" once this game expands significantly, and then have a 7th "faction" of sorts of Neutral characters that can slot into any team at all. Smugglers, Bounty Hunters, Pirates, Jawas, etc. can be "hired" by any of the six armies.

That would be

great!!!

I agree and love this we need stuff when the game hasn't even been realised.

There are a couple of ways to paint chrome armor. The easiest is to just not paint chrome and instead paint the armor silver. The medium, but still not very easy way is to get some specially made 'chrome paint' and literally chrome out the armor plates. The hard way, likely requiring a TON of practice, is to use a sky/earth non-metallic metal effect (SENMM) to paint the model using whites, blues, tans and browns.

If we get a Phasma, I'll just paint her silver. Dirty silver, with a good red cloak would look great on the battlefield.

Chrome spray paint and black ink wash
