Palp/LWF New FAQ Question

FAQ Reads

After a ship rolls defense dice and before it resolves the effect of Lightweight Frame to roll an additional defense die, Palpatine can be used on the separate, additional defense die.

Note that if Palpatine is used for the initial roll, he cannot affect the separate, additional defense die.

Can’t I declare Palp for the second roll and modify the dice of the initial roll? It just states I can’t call it for the initial roll and modify to separate roll. Or am I missing something?

May I direct you to the Rules Forum , my friend?

If you declare Palp for the initial roll, Palp changes the initial roll. Can cannot change the LWF roll. You can also declare Palp before rolling the LWF die, after rolling the initial dice.

I know that. My question is when you declared it for the LWF roll, can you change the initial dice. I don’t see anything in there that you have to change the LWF die.

RAW, you should be able to modify any of your dice results (even those rolled first before the LWF extra roll) because the Palpatine card doesn't specify which dice results need to be changed, but it only says "1 of its dice results", so you can assume any can be changed.

The trigger for Palp is "before a friendly ship rolls dice," so it cannot be used on dice that have already been rolled.

I don’t see how that relates. The trigger is before a friendly ship rolls dice, but all of the dice can be modified, Palp is a modifier. You just had to state that you’re using him.

"Before a friendly ship rolls dice" is just the trigger for Palpatine. That prevents you from triggering him after rolling dice.
However, Lightweight Frame makes you roll dice, so it can trigger Palpatine.
And Palpatine's effect targets dice results, without limiting them to be the ones just rolled.

Id'say, if there existed an ability that adds some result before rolling, Palpatine should be able to modify that result as long as you declare you are using him before you get to roll your dice. There is nothing in Palpatines card that limits you to only target any particular result.

You guys are totally correct. They completely failed to address the question.

As it stands they have created the worst possible interpretation. Roll dice, call Palp, roll Frame, Change any.

They explicitly state you can’t change the frame dice if you call Palp on the first roll (which makes no sense because the timing is the same) but they don’t state the latter.

I don’t know why they just don’t eratta Frame do you add the dice when you roll. Solves the whole problem and makes it like how it always should have been.

All the dice available for modification for LWF is 1 green die, you either call a die for your natural greens, or you call a result when rolling for your LWF die. You are reading this how you want to.

Palp - Once per round, before a friendly ship rolls dice, you may name a die result. After rolling, you must change 1 of your dice results to the named result. That die result cannot be modified again.

LWF - When defending, after rolling defense dice, if there are more attack dice than defense dice, roll 1 additional defense die.

I don't see anything in there that splits your dice results into two separate groups when you roll LWF. Unless we're claiming your Focus tokens will also only affect one or the other?

I guess you could use the timing chart and missed opportunity rules. As you have to say when you are using Palp before you roll die, if you have already rolled that die/dice you have missed your opportunity to modify those die rolled.

Edit: N/A

FFG should have just made it more clear. Wasn’t very hard.
