X-8 Night Sniper

By wurms, in Star Wars: Destiny

Im just now getting into Destiny. I got handed an entire set of common/uncommon/ and many rares from Awakenings and SoR.

So I go and buy 4 EaW boosters and pull a Night Sniper. Looks on ebay to be an expensive legendary. Why is it so good? Just for the ambush? Seems like Holdout Blaster would be better with the redeploy as well.

It was the cornerstone weapon of a meta-deck (eCad/ePhasma) but that deck will be invalid after the latest rules update comes into effect on Nov 6, so I expect its price will decrease in a few weeks.

That being said, it’s still a fine weapon. Paying a resource to flip it to a damage side can help when all your other dice are stuck modifiers.

Why just use holdout when you can also have night sniper?

Singles prices don't neccasarily translate directly to the power level of a card. In this case, decks that run Night Sniper probably want Holdouts as well; competitive players are going to pay what they need to build the best decks, so with NS being a Legendary they'll pay more for it even if it's comparable to a rare card. This would be a bit different if there were multiple other alternative options, as the 'need' to have the Legendary card is reduced which will bring it's price down.

i believe its the "best" as in highest damaging Ambush gun and its reliable.
I could be forgetting about something though.

Ambush. Can alter its die for a resource. Good damage. Neutral

Wrong, it's still a cornerstone for the deck and it's also a cornerstone for Sabine...and for Han...and for about any ranged deck that contains yellow cards. Sure it doesn't have the redeploy on it, but #1 it's only 2 cost...#2 there's more and more recursion in this game...and #3 its got it's own "Aim" on the card that allows you to turn it to whatever you need on it no matter what you roll. It will continue to be a $25+ card.

eCad/ePhas isn’t even a deck anymore, friend. How can it be the cornerstone of a deck that doesn’t exist? ?

It's a great weapon I would wait until after legacies drops, you never know

Card value is based on demand. Demand is base both on how good the card is but also how many decks it can be placed in. Ancient Lightsaber isn't a broken card but it is a good card. It is also a card that can go in any deck with blue in it. So there are many many decks that will want to run Ancient therefore it is very expensive. Now a card like Thrawn's value is base mostly on its power, and to a lesser extent, collectability. The Unkar change will actually drop the price of Thrawn since that deck took a hit and won't be as popular. Night Sniper is still a good card on its own and can be used in many decks. I wouldn't expect a drop in its price other than the normal increase in supply as more boosters get opened.

Flexibility mostly combined with overall power level of the card.
Look that cards were ultra expensive (excluding the characters)
-Force speed. Every blue deck ran this, before Rend were introduced. It was reliable way to cheat actions.
-Ancient Lightsaber. Way over 30$ for a card with so-so damage. But again it was neutral, could be played on any color of character and can heal (possibly multiple times).
-Sniper. Reliable damage, neutral with no play restriction and action cheating.
And then look at Tier2 of prices (20-30$) card Riot Baton. It has skyhigh damage, redeploy why it was not 30$+ ? Cause its only villain.

Sorry, didn't mean for that EXACT deck. You could say the same thing about every weapon then now with upgrade overwrite nerf and FN errata.

That's why I put the other decks listed and ended with : "any ranged deck that contains yellow cards"
