Interesting thought - FSR 2.01

By LagJanson, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I’m a lousy list builder, we all know that. I’d like to play out a theory but I am not likely to get a game in for two weeks...

FSR2 is likely dead. Biggs may still warp things enough from time to time to make the list work but I think Rex or Lowie melt before Biggs drops from now on.

So... I played with things a bit. It’s not final, it will never be FSR2, but it is... well, something.

T65s (99)

•Tarn Mison (26) - X-Wing
•M9-G8 (3), Integrated Astromech (0)

•Jess Pava (27) - T-70 X-Wing
•R2-D6 (1), Integrated Astromech (0), Selflessness (1)

•Lowhhrick (32) - Auzituck Gunship
Draw Their Fire (1), •C-3PO (3)

•Captain Rex (14) - TIE Fighter

Game plan is to fly much like FSR, but Tarn targets Lowie to increase firepower until a good lock on the opponents main hitter. Lowie is independently tougher to kill while still doing his job. This has far more variance unfortunately but has a few advantages.

I am thinking Rex is primary target here and likely the point of collapse. If I have failed anywhere I expect this is it. Anybody up for some theory work? Can this be made into a decent list?

I'd be interested to see how Tarn works on the table. I'm not sure how strong rerolling a single attack die is. Many of the strongest lists stack dice modification, and will be sure to have focus or Expertise. Tarn then only changes a hit to a blank 25% of the time. It'll work fairly well at eliminating crits, however (even if many turn into regular hits in the end). But do you even want that, with Draw Their Fire? Against a PS11 Imperial Ordnance list, some ships may not have focus, so it might work a little better, but they'll also have Guidance Chips.

That is to say, I'm doubtful, but I could easily be convinced by results.

Agreed. I've had games when Tarn/M9 work wonderfully and others when I'm upgrading the opponent's hits to criticals.

I'm not convinced I have a good idea either.
