In the new update the thrown shuriken grip is listed as range 13... I presume this is meant to be range 3.

1-3 makes more sense. It's a light enough weapon that throwing it at spear range (2) doesn't sound unreasonable, especially since the kind of individual carrying one probably won't have a range 2 melee weapon of their own.

Yeah, and you could possibly throw it at a person within melee range to catch them off guard (a role-play explanation, not a mechanical one unless the GM wanted to allow such a thing.)
