Will the new FAQ bring Soontir out of hiding?

By PhantomFO, in X-Wing

Now that the FAQ has injured many of Fel's biggest predators, do you think we'll see him return to the tabletop? Or will meta conditions continue to keep him in the background?

I think the game is more open to him than it was, but he won't really return all the while he can be potentially one-shot by a bomb (Bomblet+Sabine) that can be placed at PS10. Essentially he's less of a non-choice than before...but proably still not the best use of 35pts.

I flew Soontir last night. It'd been a while, and I forgot he moved before my RAC-lo. Turn 2 Bump. VI-Han flies in, tosses a 4-dice Cruise Missile my way, Hit-Crit-Crit. Obstructed and Stealth Device, so I roll 5 dice, Palp to get an evade but the roll is blanks and focus. The two crits are double-Direct Hit, and to top it all off, RAC was on a rock. Hadn't played a Decimator in a long while either...

But the Rear Admiral proceeded to body Wedge and work down Han with those nasty Kylo crits (and my opponent had original deck, too, so I took out Han's rerolls).

So Kylo feels busted to me...

But more broadly? Probably not at top levels. Soontir was already on the outs before Nym released. Miranda is a little worse at SLAM-bombing, and Fenn Rau is less of a worry, but they all are out there and will be OK, and Nym still exists. Plus, PS-11 on a bunch of Imperial Ordnance.

No.

Would you be interested in renaming the thread to if this will get Imperials out of hiding all together?

I think the new FAQ makes me want to burn my cards. This is just like Hearthstone. Time to move on to a new game.

At this point there now is no argument why FFG should not change point values on everything. Mayber even move B-wing E2 to title instead of modification.

I've been running him with the named SFs for several months. Its been really good. Now I'm salivating. Especially if people run to safe stuff like Dash, which just gets owned by Fel.

I think rumours of Miranda's demise are greatly exaggerated.

A perfect Cluster Mine or Conner Net is well worth a stress token with Experimental Interface.

Soontir and Turr.

I hear a Soontir list won a Store championship in a tough meta a few months back. :D

1. New wave released with promise for big changes = FFG$$$.

2. Vassal nerd finds greasy loophole and breaks internet.

3. Premier tournaments get inundated.

4. T-65 cultists cry fowl.

5. FFG nerfs new ships.

6. Players use old meta lists.

7. T-65 cultists cry fowl.

8. Repeat steps 1-7

Disagree. That loadout was a major threat to aces and the like. Also, her being able to run away after dropping an action bomb was huge. Her next move will be predictable. Believe me, she dead. #shedead

Soontir has always really been a beast. His support just needed some help. He'll definitely be back.

i doubt it.

We have seen time and time again that banking on autos to win vs tlt spam doesnt work. Tlts are still around, and bombs too (just no slam bombs).

In fact in a strange twist if irony i would LOVE to see a Soontir when im flying Deathrain....its seriously amusing to see people suddenly realize they cant be even remotely close to this guy if theyre on a squishy frame.

Fel with a pair of SFs doesn't care about Miranda already. If she stresses herself now, it's even easier.

Agreed. The biggest pain in the @$ s was not knowing where she'd go after you just spent a round attacking her. Most times she died on the opening engagement, but if she was able to slam bomb and run..? ouch. But now, #shedead

Who cares about Fel when Kylo is on the horizon...

Edit: Why not both...

Kylo's pilot skill seems awesome, but it's terrible. Also, he doesn't evade and we have no idea what the dial is like? Starting at 35 points bare, I don't have high hopes. At least the ship looks cool :D. Too bad it costs a lot of money!

But we'll see what happens when the internets gets at him. Who knows, he could just be the next nerfed ship?

I'm of the mind that he's going to be a point-fotress that will be really hard to pin down and bomb. but I agree - he does not appear to be broken, so his competitive viability is in question.

I doubt that! As long as there will be any bombs or turrets around there will be no space for Soontir Fel.

Although you could bring him out and be renegade!

you self-bumped and then put your deci on a rock? I'm not sure this is a quality assessment of Soontir's viability...
