Summary of arguments settled in new FAQ

This was a slight nerf. The new FAQ changes the wording for advanced slam. Below is the old card, with the new wording in BOLD ITALIC:

"After performing a SLAM action, if you did not overlap an obstacle or another ship, you may perform a free action on your action bar."

Prior to yesterday's FAQ, one could SLAM with a Kwing and then use advance slam to then drop a bomb with the action header. Now that is no longer possible. It's not a huge nerf, but for some lists that use adv slam and action bombs, it does kind of end those.

see now that is an issue with me. the whole purpose for advanced slam WAS to drop a mine that way. that's how they designed the ship. now there basicly saying oops we shouldn't have done that ...... I think they need to playtest more.

It's pretty straightforward. Either you spend the target lock from a friendly ship with Targeting Synchronizer and you do not get the added crit from Advanced Targeting Computer, or you do not spend the target lock from a friendly ship with Targeting Synchronizer and you do get the added crit from Advanced Targeting Computer. You don't get both.

I find it odd that you quoted the FAQ for clarity and then still pulled a ruling that the FAQ entry doesn't specify. There is still no reason you can't spend the TS's TL and then use Advanced Targeting Computer. The fact that the FAQ entry omits to mention this I would take as tacit approval of this, rather than the dial you seem to have read into it.

The same way it did before. If it helps, read the no-spendy provision as two separate things:

  1. if you add a [kaboom] result in this way, you cannot spend a Target Lock during this attack
  2. if you spend a Target Lock during this attack, you cannot add a [kaboom] result.

I agree it could be more tightly worded, but I don't think there's a case here.

It's never been that way I still don't think it is. The FAQ entry does not say you can't spend someone else's TL and then ATC.

Sure, that may be what they meant, but that's not what they said.

Kwing was designed to be a sandbox... but I think you are presuming too much to say that the ship was "designed to slam and drop action bombs"

Unless you were on the design team, you probably don't REALLY know that.

However, they SHOULD have known, through play testing (as you pointed out) that using advance slam to drop a bomb would be a thing people would do. I mean that IS pretty powerful.

However, I'm okay with the changes to advance slam and I fly Kwings quite often.

It's a failure or lack of sufficient, quality playtesting for sure. HOWEVER, playtesting is not exactly fun either. At least not for me. You have to do it all in secret only with other playtesters and you are trying to break something and often NOT playing what you find fun. AND there is a lot of documentation. It's actually rather boring to do for a lot of people and you get paid little or nothing.

I have a question about bombardier and sol sixxa, if sol has bombardier on board, can he use the 2 movement as a left bank or right bank? Or is he stuck with just a straight 2?

You can drop a bomb four ways, with the 1 straight template, the 1 hard turn template (either way), and the 2 straight template

well maybe I did presume to much but, when you make a ship that can hold 2 torps, a missile, 2 bombs and have slam as an action on its bar and then give it advanced slam as a card in its ship set, its pretty obvious what was being planned there, o yea and what does it come with for mines, I believe it was clusters and connor nets? or was it the prox? cant remember. with all the crap in that ships box you cant tell me it wasn't even thought of when they made it. when I saw it that was the first thing I thought of doing. but when I fly k's I use proton bombs... more fun, as for playtesting not being fun..... let me In on that, I think I would enjoy it especially since xwing kinda died in my area thanks to star wars destiny.

Thank you, not what I was hoping to hear, but at least I know what that combo does now. ☺

Yet the first shot Kwings had at worlds was Aaron Bonar's triple K's w/ TLT and tactician... good enough for top 8 and not a single bomb (or advance slam).

yea I saw that, the better TLT was goldy Y's or thuglife. 4 tlts instead of 3

At the time, TLT was not specified to resolve both attacks before allowing any abilities that happened "after you perform an attack" to trigger.

Therefore Tactician would trigger twice if caught in arc at Range 2, allowing this list to dump up to 6 stress across up to 3 targets in one round.

TLT Y's could possibly beat it in a head-to-head (initiative matters a lot here, since the K-Wings can SLAM and don't have a no-fire zone) but as you may realize, that doesn't matter one iota if he never faces a quad TLT.

And the stress utility made it better against lists that the quad TLT list struggles with.

i cant say i argue with the logic.
