Interesting.
Fantasy Flight Interactive
Guess they wanted to make a destiny video card game >.>
This press release has been a long time coming.
They have been hiring for the group in Wisconsin for well over a year so far... The name was even foreshadowed in some of those job postings, too.
Well, I guess the Imperial Assault app is just now starting.
Probably the group that will release the widely demanded digital companion for Imperial Assault.

Only for the software development side.
Its in conjunction with a major computer based university, to my understanding;

The release specifically says "We didn’t create a new company just to translate board games into digital games", and "Fantasy Flight Games will continue to develop hybrid digital board games, while Fantasy Flight Interactive focuses on more expansive video game projects. Fans can anticipate richly strategic experiences with easy-to-understand UI, built from the ground up for Steam", so that doesn't seem likely.
Ooh baby. I just want a nice mobile Fleet Builder app (but keen to see what new things they come up with)!

Well I love that they are going straight-out for Steam.
I mean, that's just a no-brainer, but some idiot executives always get a bug up their **** about creating 'exclusive' platforms or whatever.
No idea what they are coming up with, and it does feel like a bit of an over-extension, but...who knows!
(Hopefully it doesn't mean they suddenly feel the need to start squashing VASSAL modules with cease-and-desist letters, anyway)
I'm still sure we'll get board game style games. With frequent expansions called DLCs.
with crates! And random Stuff!!!

I wouldn't suggest that it's their only app. But given that it's been in development for over a year according to FFG at Gencon 2016 and 2017, it's probably a major reason why they needed to create a dedicated development studio. And once they have one, better to integrate it with existing and future ideas they can directly sell instead of dropping it entirely and having to rebuild from the ground up each time they need a new integrated app.
Does this mean that they will be creating digital game aids for their physical games (like squad builder apps) or games that can be played digitally? (both?)
This seems to be primarily based on creating Steam platform games.
It definitely sounds like player aids, map makers for current games, etc would still be FFG related, not FFI related. This sounds more like FFI would be making new products. I'm guessing those products would be related back to IPs that FFG has though. A first person based Arkham Horror investigation/exploration game for example. A first person game set in the Android universe. Things like that.
Basically:
"
Fantasy Flight Games will continue to develop hybrid digital board games, while Fantasy Flight Interactive focuses on more expansive video game projects.
Fans can anticipate richly strategic experiences with easy-to-understand UI, built from the ground up for Steam.
Asmodee Digital will serve as publisher for all of Fantasy Flight Interactive’s games."
wish: a visually attractive armada with a cunning ai opponent.
I know, that would just be a translation and is not what they meant primarily.

That's how I took it too.
Please let their 1st game be a re-imagineing of Xwing vs Tiefighter

They're unlikely going to make any star wars universe games. EA holds those rights.
I'm up however for some hack and slash in Rune Wars universe or L5R.

Disney can still license other companies to make "casual and social games" in the Star Wars universe on mobile devices, tablets and the web. Not sure exactly what that would and wouldn't allow FFG to produce.
