Why does the Falcon suffer in comparison to the Outrider?

By Estarriol, in X-Wing

Dash starts out cheaper than Han Solo even after including the outrider title. Building them up Dash will always cost less than Han, has better firepower with the HLC, and is more maneuverable with the barrel roll. Sure YT-1300 has 2 Kturns but as a PWT ship K-turns are not that valuable. YT-2400 has all the hard turns and a barrel roll on a large base ship.

Bottom line Dash has more firepower and more maneuverability. Han may be tankier, but at a higer point cost that is not that valuable.

One on One with the best configurations possible I give it to the Falcon.

Rey pilot + Original Title + Finn + 3CPO + Engine Upgrade + PTL has a fairly large advantage over almost any Outrider configuration.

That being said, throw multiple ships the in the senario that 2nd defense dice looks better than the single evade token. And Dash is slightly cheaper and has a better dial.

I have been a Dash fan since Shadow's, but 1 on 1 the Falcon has the advantage. (The Outrider will always be my favorite ship in the Star Wars universe.) Overall, in standard game play and up Dash gains a bigger and bigger edge the more points thrown into the game. Unless it is Palp Aces.

But this Rey throws just 3 red against 3 green. Dash throws 4 red against effectively 2 green. So Dash will do more damage and take less, no?

The difference in HP at 13 vs 10 is also pretty small. And of course we're comparing 60+ points vs 52/53pt here, so Rey should win!

Because Dash hits harder and can get out of Dodge easier than the Falcon pilots.

The higher PS skill is huge in this case. And if Rey keeps Dash in her Arc (PS) Finn adds that extra dice after the roll (aka after your 3CP0 roll) on both defensive and offensive. So 2 evade dice plus a evade (title) and a good chance of a 3rd with 3CP0.

yeah I forgot about Finn there.

So I'm assuming that

  • Dash can always stay at range 3
  • Lone Wolf Dash with Rey but no EU for total 52pt
  • Rey as you described, which means no Kanan! Total 62 points
  • C-3PO guesses 0

Dash with focus vs Rey with an evade will do on average 1.53 damage.
Adding a focus, Finn, and Rey's reroll means that goes down to 0.97 damage: 1 native (C3PO) + 1 from Finn(with roll and focus!) + 1 evade. Guessing 1 correctly switches that, but it's a pain to calculate... Anyway, 0.97 if in arc, 1.53 otherwise.

Out of arc, Rey with focus vs Dash with focus will do an average of 0.65 0.56 0.35 damage, or 1.22 1.42 0.99 if Dash has no focus.
In arc, Rey+Finn+focus vs Dash with focus will do an average of 1.6 1.15 damage, (e: or 2.04 if Dash has no focus)

So what is realistic? Half of the time in arc? 5 rounds each, so 10 rounds of shots total? I doubt it because no Kanan means that she can't sloop as often, but let's say it's 50:50.
If yes then Dash does an expected damage of 12.5 damage.
Rey in the same time does 11.25 7.5 - if Dash did bank enough focus tokens in the beginning! Otherwise it's 14 15.15!

So to summarize it looks like it might be a very tough fight for Dash. And I assume that he can remain at range 3! We can of course add EU to Dash for a 56pt vs 62pt fight, and then that assumption is more realistic. It boils down to the flying. E.g. an 8:2 of out of arc vs in arc amounts to total 8.4 5.1 damage (assuming defensive focus). So these 3 in-arc shots would make all the difference. so it looks like the banked focus and the range bonus make all the difference! Of course the focus have a chance to remain unspent, so it's not just banking them!

And then Dash messes up one round, Rey gets a fully modified range 1 shot and everything is over anyway ;)

Mistakes were made, because I forgot the defensive LoneWolf!

4 > 3.

My random pondering du jour... why is it Dash makes it to the top and Han, Rey et. al. seem to suffer by comparison? Is the barrel roll that much of a thing?

Pros:

+ 1 agility

+ 1 barrel roll (which is huuuuge, doubly so with PTL and EU)

+ better pilot skill over good yt-1300 pilots

+ 1 attack at range 2-3

cheaper on squad points

Amazing pilot ability

better dial

2400 is 1,100 more than 1300

Cons:

1 fewer crew

less HP

Your Life-partner dog man cant fly it

In Summary, its just better for the price. a decked out dash is around 50 points, a decked out falcon is 60. I used to fly Dash or Leebo with Corran and its so fun, but it just isn't fair so i stopped. they kill Corran, your 10 hp arc dodging HLC mops up. They kill Leebo, and your double-tapping regen ace is alone with whoever is left. not pretty. most games i didn't lose either
