Sabine's Tie Defender Confirmed:

By rafcpl6868, in X-Wing

Part of the reason we got Sabine's TIE Fighter in the first place is that the Rebellion has very few ships left of the correct size. I mean. They have since released the H-Wing and the Wookiee Gunship. Literally what new ships can they have for Wave 14?

I don't actually want Sabine's Defender. I tend to agree with the folks who don't like the idea of Rebel/Imperial mirror matches. Nor do I expect FFG to actually put out any kind of Rebel TIE Defender.

Which still leaves me wondering what new ships they can release after this...

2 things: My brother in law plays a mandolin that he calls "Lando the Mando", or something like that.

And secondly: I would kinda like the N-1... if I saw a role for it that wasn't too similar to either the Z-95 or A-Wing. :/

If I really wanted to fit it in, I'd try to make it a 'heavy swarmer'.

Heavy swarmers do work - they're essentially a ship which can fit 5-per-squad with 3 dice attacks:

  • Lightweight Frame/Adaptive Ailerons Scarif Defender
  • Lightweight Frame/Unguided Rockets Scimitar Squadron Pilot
  • Autothrusters Alpha Squadron Pilot
  • Zealous Recruit
  • Heavy Scyk/Mangler Cannon Cartel Spacer
  • Vaksai/XX-23 S-Thread Tracers/Inertial Dampeners/Guidance Chips/Munitions Failsafe Cartel Marauder

These ships do genuinely work, and even moderately competitive local events have been won and/or seriously contested by five of these ships.

You'll note that whilst Imperials and Scum both have three options each to mix and match, rebels have none - the only ships they have which fit that profile are Zeb and Ezra - two unique pilots.

The N-1 should be a 2-dice primary ship, but it's also not unreasonable to give it two torpedo slots; making it a flimsier, turret-less Y-wing that can actually turn corners. Include a [torpedo][torpedo] double upgrade which is more or less equivalent to unguided rockets* and you have an interesting ship; if the torpedo is 2 points, and the N1 is 17, you can include 5 with 1 point astromechs to give them a half-decent dial and have a rebel equivalent of a heavy swarm, or else pack torpedo/extra munitions and have a competitor to the Y-wing as a torpedo bomber (since the latter tends to be a turret boat far more often).

* I'd say 3 dice, focus, range 1-2 but getting either a bonus die at range 1 or an if-you-hit advantage; making them a torpedo slot hybrid of unguided rockets and cluster missiles. Focus-aimed makes them good for generics (essentially built-in deadeye) but bad for OS-1 gunboats (worth bearing in mind as a potential user!)

Any ship named Sabine is useless unless you can run bombs with it.

Why stop there? Give it a crew slot to. Maybe access to illicits. Throw in an astromech for good measure. Give Sabine a stardestroyer to, she probably looked at one at some point...

I think Sabine will get Dengar’s torps and astromech.

Stat it like a title-less Scurrg, only this time actually priced correctly. Give it all uniques, K-wing style, and make sure they do interesting things; Shara Bey's ability may be sad in a platform as pricey as an ARC, but in a 13pt base light starfighter? Yes please; nom nom nom.

Have Leia show up as a PS7 pocket ace - the Rebel faction is a bit short on those. (My favourite: "During the cleanup phase, you may choose not to discard one unspent Focus or Evade token assigned to your ship." You then, uh, slap Juke on her and start giggling at the low-20s total point cost.)

But yeah, the Rebellion is running a little short on ships. Sabine in a Defender, though? Well, it would certainly solve... er... all their dial weaknesses ever. That's, um, good right? <_<

If the Rebels get the TIE Reaper and or Chiss Clawcraft, I expect these forums to howl like never before.

No for the Empire dummy.

Rebels can piss up a rope for all I care.

Maybe my context wasn't clear: I had been wondering what FFG could release for the Rebels in future waves.

Oh. They could get the LAAT... that was in Rebels in an old Republic base...

It was also the Rebel faction "transport" type ship (as "Alliance Assault Craft") in the old Battlefront II space maps, but I don't think the LAAT will get in, it has been repeatedly referenced as a Repulsorcraft suitable only for atmospheres, or gravity wells if you prefer (AoR gives the height limit at 100 km - i/e the space barrier on any Earth-like planet).

But, barring executive pressure FFG has loads of ships still to release for all factions, as seen in that one topic lurking around.

I'm done paying to watch this show.

I wanna see Wedge & Hobbie in a Ywing. (Amongst others)

Most recent episode had Wedge in a Y-Wing. Though he was on fire and landing.

Correct. So FFG, please make a card with him in a Y.

That's... one way to make sure the TLTs never miss, I guess?

After watching that preview, I'm going to be very disappointed if Thrawn doesn't get mauled by a Force thrown wolf.

Actually there is the last space variant but I can’t remember the name
