My friend, @Celestial Lizards and I were playing, and I was using hotshot co pilot against him. He said that if he rolled no focus results, he didn't have to spend one of his focus tokens. I cited the Garven Dreis FAQ where it says he can spend the focus even if there are not focus results. Opinions?
Hotshot Co-Pilot
Putting the pieces together.
Short answer: the token has to be spent, regardless of the presence or absence of focus results.
That’s how I’ve seen it ruled. He’s able to spend the token, so he must; it just doesn’t do anything.
Which is kinda a big part of the card, IMO. It’s a 4 point crew; it’s gotta be pretty solid.
Yup. You can spend the token even if you rolled 0 eyeballs. You can spend it even if you rolled 0 DICE.
THe only time you can be blocked from spending it is if Carnor Jax is in range, if Fenn Rau in the Sheathipede (when he's out) used his ability on you, or you used Accuracy Corrector on the attack.
And yeah, at 4 points it had better be good. And is.
I suppose that a YV-666 with Hotshot Copilot and 4-LOM could prevent someone from spending a focus, but I find that circumstance highly unlikely. ![]()
*Edit* (Thursday 26 October) I figured out the circumstance. YV-666 with Gunner, Hotshot and 4-LOM attacking a ship that started with two focus. First shot removes one of the two focus tokens. On the second shot from gunner, you might want to 4-LOM to prevent them from spending the remaining focus token.
Edited by theBitterFigValid, but as you say, unlikely.
