OS-1 and Unguided Rockets

By Nasimrais, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I may be reading this incorrectly. The OS-1 title says that you may fire missiles and torpedoes at a target that you have target locked while you have a weapons disabled token. However, the text for Major Vynder in the article https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2017/10/20/indiscriminate-devastation/ mentions using SLAM to fire unguided rockets, and the image provided in the article does not also show a target lock on the X-wing target.

Does the title require a target lock on the target to be able to fire ordinance, or not?

Yes, the title explicitly requires a Target Lock. A munition requiring a Focus would just mean that you need a Focus and a Target Lock to fire while Weapons Disabled. This would appear to be a slip-up on the part of the article authors.

It usually seems to happen at least once in each article. Maybe FFG's actually doing it intentionally to promote player involvement. "Did you spot the rules error in today's article? Head over to the forums to find out!"

Probably just the standard article error. Reading the title, you shouldn't be able to use the unguided rockets when you have the weapons disabled token unless you have both a lock and a focus.

Oh good I'm not crazy. Also you're right. I think they've kept the tradition alive since at least the previous time they talked about SLAM, at the very least.

The preview articles are usually written by marketing types rather than designers so as a result rules errors on slightly finnicky stuff like this tends to be fairly common.

The wording seems pretty clear to me, as written you are required to have a target lock on who you want to shoot, so something that requires a focus would now require both. Also, Deadeye and Targeting Synchronizer won't help because they both just allow you to alter the "Attack [Target Lock]" header while the title simply specifies you need a TL.

Shara Bey would work but wrong faction.
