Saw's Partisans - you know you want it!

By xanderf, in X-Wing

Two-ship expansion pack, maybe?

From this week's Rebels:

...and, of course, Rogue One:

I figure taking a page from the Scurrg makes sense, and mixing factions.

U-Wing pilots: K-2SO (Rebel), Saw Gerrara (Rebel + Scum), Benthic "Two Tubes" (Rebel + Scum), Has Obitt (Scum)

X-Wing pilots: ??? Yeah, no ideas. More of Saw's guys, I suppose, but we never really saw any of them flying starfighters. At least so far? Maybe later in the season...

Sure...

If I can have Imperial Generals for Punisher and something else...

U-Wing & X-Wing partisan for Rebels

Tie Reaper & Tie Striker

Blue U-Wing & Blue squadron X-Wing

2x Tie fighter inferno squadron

Come on FFG, you can bring more multi pack ! :)

I think a U-wing fix re-release is likely. The fans seem to love it, it's a good looking ship, and now it has appeared in Rebels, also it would need some help.

I think the paintjob will be Saw-s ship, with pilots being: Saw, Saw's fugly faced buddy, K2SO, and a Partisan pilot. I think the ship might have a unique title (or two, if they expand on cassian's lore somehow), and maybe a fix for Pivot Wing, or a mod for the ship.

I can definitely see an X-wing re-release in the future. Rebels appearance from the trailer, Hera pilot, and the long awaited X-wing fix...

I just want my Punisher fixed first :(

Bor Gullet crew 4 points, look at your opponent’s dial after they have set it before setting yours.

The U-Wing is easily my favorite Rebel ship that isn't an HWK-290. So of course I want to see more of it. What I find interesting though, is that Saw's U-Wing is clearly a war retrofit compared to Mothma's sad little strictly-transports, and that at some point the Rebel cell goes, "Yeah Saw is bang-on about these bad-boys."

What impressed me so much was how dynamic the craft looked in Rebels. The way it flies in looks beautiful, the blasting it gave that Arquitens, while debatably logical, was awesome and surprising, and there's just something very heroic looking about its wide wingspan. I especially loved when it docked and had its wings go forward.

Some people may decry the U-Wing for looking too much like an X-Wing and Y-Wing got it on, but it's REALLY GOOD LOOKING IN MOTION. Something that many of the other concept art pieces can't say, because honestly, the U-Wing's horizontally dominant profile, on top of its pedigree-proven shape makes the vessel really stand out.

(I'm also still very proud of my one and only flight of it in Battlefront, where I had to get to the shield gate. I was a smart pilot and made it through mostly unharmed, not for not being under fire but by just being the smarter pilot.)

I think they should be grouped into a scarif pack, much like the hwk and fire spray in most wanted.

Saws partian x-wings can be rebels, but you have a title that's partisan only (this will mean some funky card names like 2tubes-deputy of the partisans, but it can work) and you can allow them to take their x-wings in scum squads as well as some other changes (swap missiles in for torps and maybe Astro out for system??).

same thing with the U-wing.

Then group all of that into a scarif rebel pack with general merrick and blue squadron x-wings and K-2SO u-wing pilot and sell it for $30-$40.

I dunno, it's a pretty distinctive paint scheme - I'd be sort of surprised if FFG passed on the opportunity of using it.

(I mean, granted, that requires this whole era to still be a 'going concern' from the franchise perspective for another couple years. Who knows if it will be - this is the last season of 'Rebels', so we only know this period still keeps getting attention through next spring. The Han Solo movie predates this period by some stretch, and otherwise...?)

Wow, that U-wing looks sweet, as that X-wing always has.

I think FFG's challenge in releasing it would be making it so you'd still want to buy the original U-wing as well (like how you still want to buy the standalone Defender for Vessery and the second ship). Were the U-wing to be updated, are any of the original pilots such a standout that you'd want to run them that badly? Would a two-U list be desirable?

The biggest problem for the U-Wing is this: what is its role supposed to be within the Rebel fleet, especially now that we have the Auzituck? Currently there is nothing a U-Wing can do that a gunship or B-Wing can't do better. If you're looking for a 2-crew ship with three attack dice, the Auzituck beats the U-Wing in every category. If you're looking for something with an FCS, the B-Wing is going to do better for the price.

Simply put, I have no reason to ever actually use this thing. At the least, it should have had a Coordinate action or something to give it an actual role.

Beyond U-wing and X-Wing fixes, we do also need some new Y-wing pilots.

I just think it's a bit sad that our reaction to underperforming ships that we bought is "please FFG sell us more ships so we can get that first one we bought to actually work". Stockholm Syndrome much?

btw: I'd probably buy it, too. Mostly for the paintjob and narrative possibilities, but I'm a toy ship collector first and Xwing player second.

Who said I was talking, at all, about its performance in XWMG? I've been talking about the U-Wing as a ship in general.

I dunno, of the original pilots, Cassian is the only weak- ish pilot. Bodhi's ability is solid, and Heff Tobber would be bonkers good with a better action bar - I mean, he's positioned at low enough PS to be a good blocker, and when he DOES successfully block he gets a free action from it? Yes, please!

But the ship they are on is, at the moment...inadequate for its cost. Given the upgrade slots it has (even a system slot!), that should be pretty easily fixable for the old pilots as well as new.

FFG certainly does have a history of including Rebels tie in stuff, so a Saw Partisan pack is certainly not out of the question, and would be a good opportunity to fix two loved but uncompetitive ships.

I think a Scarif pack is at this point exceedingly unlikely, as it doesn't tie into any new tv/movies The Mouse is trying to promote. Lucasfilm has to sign off on everything, and they are going to say do something that ties in with their new stuff instead of last year's one off movie they are done promoting. Assuming X Wing mini's are still going strong after all 6 or so of the new movies have run their course, then I think they would have the opportunity to revisit Rogue One, but I think if it were going to happen before then they would have announced it already.

I'd buy it.

Split these pilots between U-Wing and X-Wing:

  • Saw Gerrera
  • Benthic "Two Tubes"
  • Edrio "Two Tubes"
  • Beezer Fortuna

I think Saw would be better in a X-Wing.

But I already bought the original U-Wing. Plus, y'know, some of the upgrades are still pretty good.

Personally, while the paintjob might mean Saw's element should be a focus, we also know in the S4 trailer Hera will be operating a U-Wing. Her PS, an EPT and her ability might be a welcome shot in the arm for the ship. Otherwise, atm Cassian has the advantage of being the one guy of them who has an EPT and anything you could arrange with that. Honestly there's a bucket full of Unique pilots who would qualify for the U-Wing at this point.

I would be very happy with a new U-wing that included some Saw stuff... and some extra attention to the characters that were missed out from the first one due to Disney-mandated ignorance.

I'd love a Partisan pack with an X-wing and U-wing if they came with a few 'partisan re-fit' cards with some fixes.

I also want a 'defenders of scarif' pack with Krennic's Delta-class shuttle and a TIE Reaper.

@ xanderf I love your enthusiasm for possibilities, & frankly I would buy it otherwise this looks like an easy mod to paint.

Otherwise, I don't believe ffg would make this unless a rabid & fervent "Cult of Partisan" formed - the way the Cult of Gunboat yearned for the Assault Gunboat after years of pleading, etc.

Didn't they all die for like no good reason?

Saw and his guys aren't really Scum, they are an extremist cell of the rebel alliance.

They definitely were. In The Name Of The Rebellion certainly shows the start of that falling out; I'll be interested to see how they end up leaving (to the extent of "we'll shoot you if we see you again" implied in Rogue One) - I wonder if it might be in the process of acquiring X-wings (as that's one of the obvious big 'to be resolved' story lines and both Saw and the Masasi group do get them).

I'd personally stick with them as rebels. You could put them as scum if you absolutely must have some scum content in a scarif/rebels box, but like you say, they aren't really .

Edited by Magnus Grendel

Regardless where they stand officially in Rogue One they are Rebels and not Scum. Their motivation is to bring down the Empire, not to make as much money as they could and buy a fancy desert sailing barge. They may have been cast out of the Rebel Alliance by Mon Motma and other RA officials but they are still more rebels then scum if it comes to X-Wing Factions.
