I know that people in FFG shirts go to some Cons and get a table and do demos. Any way to establish where they will be in advance? I'm wondering if they'll have a presence at FearCon in SLC this weekend. I have a huge pile of cards and want to learn to play.

I also recommend joining the L5R discord and doing an online game with them. They are more than willing to take the time to show someone how to play.
