X-Wing Vassal module 7.5.1 is out - 3 quick bug fixes

By Mu0n729, in X-Wing

Details at: https://teamcovenant.com/star-wars-x-wing/x-wing-module-7-5-1-available

v7.5.1 is now out less than 24 hours after the release of v7.5.0. Thanks to @colossal and @sycho for some very quick and useful bug reporting and to @MrMurphM who helped squash the most problematic barrel roll out-of-sync problem. This bug made the player perform a barrel roll into open space see the ship move normally, but all other players/observers wouldn't see the same ship reposition. This is now fixed and should be downloaded ASAP, even if you downloaded v7.5.0 in the last 24 hours.

Awesome response time for this. Vassal league game last night had this resync thing, so log file is borked lol.

.....and there's yet 1 more bug with the Lancer-class. The arc graphics won't rotate with the ship. The fix is well known and already applied (vassal editor related issue) and I'm uploading 7.5.2 as we speak. I won't pollute the forums with another post!

Go get 7.5.2 here:

You download the core program - vassal.

You download the x-wing part - the module Mu0n linked - and open it using vassal.

You play games with it.

Is it worth all the effort? Do you play against real people? I would so love an online version of this game. Do you get to the program which expansions you have so that you can only play your own personal options?

It's been worth the effort for hundreds, if not thousands of people, even back in the day with NO automation for squad spawning since 2012. We're currently in the middile of the 5th season of the Vassal league which started at 380 players. There's no other online X-Wing platform that comes close to it in terms of activity and organized play. There are a dozen tournaments hosted on reddit, team covenant or local facebook groups that also bring their activity there.

Every ship is available in any quantity you want in vassal. The Assault Gunboat was just added this weekend by yours truly, so you can even test squads that use it right now.

If you want to limit yourself to what you own, you can, while you design your squad in an online builder. Yet Another Squadron builder lets you define your collection and warns you when you're using a ship/pilot/upgrade that you don't own (or don't own enough copies of). I think Fab's Squadron builder easily does it as well. Both are supported by vassal in that you can copy your Squad's URL and just paste it in the autospawner of vassal and it'll put everything you need in your personal player window.

You play against real people.

You play with anything that's currently been spoiled, but the game doesn't include any of the text, you have to reference that from your own sources.

It's entirely unofficial.

I'd say it's worth the effort but ymmv.

@Pooleman I made a step-by-step installation and hands-on guide at

Three quick questions.

1) Does having an anti-virus program running interfere with Vassal?

2) Will the latest version of Vassal run under Windows XP?

3) Will Vassal run with Ubuntu?

Sorry to say but I haven't run WinXp for more than a decade, never ran Ubuntu and I've never heard of anyone having problems with anti-viruses.

Can WinXP run a Java runtime environment 1.5+?

I haven't experienced that bug myself, nor heard of people experiencing it and solving it.

What version of JRE are you running? Did you get the latest? If yes, did you try to roll it back?

Can confirm that yes, it will.
