A bunch of OL5R cards... what to do with them?

By franzvong, in Legend of the Five Rings: The Card Game

My wife (great woman) recently bought me a 20 Festivals Starter Display (the one with 9 tin boxes) just to have a place to store my decks (and I suppose stop having cards all over the place at home).

I love the boxes, but now I have a lot (like, a lot) of old cards that need to find a purpose or place. I've looked online, but as expected the market seems to have almost stopped with the release of the new game; I could sell them for 0.05 euro a piece, but for that price I would probably just keep them for the lore/art.

And there comes my question: what (game-related) use I could make out of them?

Some ideas I've got:

- As I have many in 5+ copies, I could create some 3D art out of it (no purpose, just nice to look at) like

da07d28b13094861e69a6bf5f6e217af--magic-

- If the game will have tokens in the future (like ninjas, ronins, etc) I could cut pics from the card and use them as such

- Decorating the new L5R folders

Anything else?

First of, I love the 3D card mod, I might try it some time with the Stronghold if I have the time.

What I do now with my old cards is use the height of courage and truce from EE to proxy for banzai and courtgames, cause I only have 2 sets each, and hate taking things out of the sleeves cause I usually forget to put them back. I do this only for practice games only, though I wouldnt mind if a shop allows proxies for those who didnt get enough cores since its sold out currently.

Now I'm just jealous of that 3D art. Wish I could make it. :D

Ask the Thrones 1.0 players :D T_T one of them built a throne and burn it :D T_T

I have an entire GoT 1.0 set that I picked up a while ago and was unable to convince anyone to play with me. I feel bad I spent the money, and I will probably use the cards for tinder during the winter.

I approve of this!

I would honestly just build a few decks to have on hand for players who want to have an occasional dip into nostalgia. I will admit that the new game is objectively better quality, in the process of fixing the things that weren't perfect about the CCG, the team at FFG turned L5R LCG into a very different game, at least to this filthy Unicorn.

1. Choose a card with art you like which has a defined foreground, midground, background.

2. cut out with an x-acto those elements which are on each plane in the art.

3. cut out the entire art frame from a bunch of cards you don't mind ruining.

4. stack them in order to recreate the art. add the empty frame cards in between each art layer to create more depth.

Anyone can do it :P

:D Yup, if they had steady hands that could make that without mussing it up too much. Or the coordination to get exact cuts on art pieces. ;)

If I may, use instead something else (like double-side tape for constructions, the thick one) and paint both sides in the right color. Better result and much faster

Nah then you have gaps and it looks like garbage from an angle. You don't get the cool cut out book effect.

Also yeah I suppose you need a steady hand. Maybe I take mine for granted :/

Not sure which gaps do you mean. I just prefer the depth this solution gives. You can obtain the same with cards, but you need 3-4 cards between every layer...

That 3d art is a great idea... maybe I'll have a use for the 3x cards in my LCG collection that I can only use 1 of per deck... <_<

3d Strongholds could be awesome!

It's more like a cut away book and you have more control over depth. It also ends up very solid feeling instead of squishy. There's no right or wrong way, just preference.

It would be pretty cool with strongholds. Actually even a little model for your stronghold would be awesome.

Donate them to the card house building area at Gencon. There were tons of them this year.
