Mecronid Armor - Does it come off?

By numb3rc, in Dark Heresy

I was looking at the Radical's Handbook again and it appears that there is no description as to if Mecronid Armor actually can be taken off. Now, it makes sense that it doesn't come off but it it doesn't than only a fool would use it aw they would be killed by it the moment they went to sleep. 15,000 Throne armor isn't worth it if it condemns you to death in a day or two, tops.

Also, if the armor could be taken off, how would such a thing be done?

it would make sense that it has its own special containment vessel or maybe the armour has a sleep mode as well

I think it should be able to be taken off. The "catch term" used in the paragraph of the RH is "lose consciousness". "Lights out" is a very real threat in combat (even in very good armour) a different thing then "falling asleep".

But I see it as an actuall benefit that there is not method given by the book..thereby, cooky players can not "accidently try the right thing" by reasoning they would have tried this anyway since it is "so logical to try this!" (if seen all of this happen...)

Some ideas what the method could be:
1) Appliance of strong electrical current.
Yes, this could harm the wearer...or send him unconscious... perhaps without un-doing the armour if it "got used to it" if used to often...

2) Extreme temperatures over an extended period of time
Again, with the chance of harm to the wearer and/or "blacking out".. but with this method, these "Resistance: Cold/Heat" would be put to use once a while... gui%C3%B1o.gif

3) Radiation ... strong radiation
Ready to lose (1d10-TB) points of Toughness each time you want to undo your armour? How often will you wear it?

4) A perfect "C" or similiar "sonic key"
Not harmfull, but funny. One could start to keep a singer for "undressing". Anyone fine with Wagner ?

5) Touching a certain metal
In order to get rid of it, someone must pass you a rod of a certain rare metal. No what do you do if this rod get´s lost/destroyed in combat? Can you stay away long enough till you get another rod?

6) Telepathic Signal
The race whom developed it was telepathic and the material is a telepathic receiver... that´s is why the "Armour" goes rogue when you pass out... as it stops receiving "input" it goes "autopilot" till receiving fresh imput... side effect: an enemy psyker "knowing the trick" could strip you in the midst of combat...

7)Touching metal, second part
Close studies have revealed that the Mecronid is "cannibalizing" other metals ("feeding" on it). So, if you want to get it of you "connect it to food". Unfortunately, no food source lasts forever and the MA has expensive taste...
