PSA: Advanced SLAM hasn't been nerfed just yet.

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

We all seen the article and know what is coming. The Advanced SLAM reprint with the erratum added as seen below.

However that is still not the legal Advanced SLAM as there is nothing in the errata from the latest FAQ and also the reprint is not out yet. So when playing your game this is the upgrade that you still use.

Now if you want to get some practice in for the next change you don't even have to proxy a card. Just every free action you only chose from your action bar and then go form there. No one is telling you how you should utilize your upgrades, but just so that everyone knows SLAM 2.0 (or in this case 0.2) is not out yet. It is coming, but the nerf isn't implemented just yet.

Unless you're in the vassal league, where the spoiled version took effect immediately :) Everywhere else, yah, use the original version unless you're testing the new one or you're at a tournament where the TO says ahead of time they'll use the changed text.

The way I see it the Vassal League is in two parts. The pre-release playtest which takes all the spoiled information and immediately implements it into the games (so Go Gunboats! ), and the tabletop practice which sticks to all the current official rulings as you would see in a regular table top tournament match.

So if the gunboats are added into your Vassal division, then you do use the Erratum. If not, then you are still on the original one.

The vassal league doesn't have different rules by division. The gunboat is legal for play in the league as of the release of the updated module for all divisions. You can choose not to PLAY with them, but other people still can if they want to, and everyone should be using the updated SLAM text in future games.

For normal vassal play, it can of course go either way.

I like to think there is more than one Vassal league (or division or some other OP group on Vassal), if not there should be. We could use another one for alternative formats.

As far as I know, there's only the one actual League right now on vassal (though I think I saw someone on facebook in one of the x-wing groups talking about starting an online vassal league, so there may be another soon). There's been numerous other vassal Tournaments, but no other leagues to my knowledge. I'd be all for more though. The more options the better (as long as they're getting enough people to be useful/fun)

It usually doesn't. The default on VASSAL has become "everything in the module is legal." It's why I don't play on VASSAL very much any longer.

I meant more for the Adv Slam change. The gunboats gonna be there if people choose to play it, but since the card text doesn't change, if you load up a list with adv slam and want to use the old version, should be no reason you can't USE the old version in a normal game until it's officially FAQed (or the gunboat releases)

What if I use the old card, but simply choose of my own volition only to use actions on my action bar?

This is going to be a messy regional season. Start out under Balance to the force FAQ with GFH, end under wave 12 (13 doesn't exist anymore, it's been clumped in with wave 12) and who knows what FAQ besides the slam changes.

Plus you can't flip the table like you can in tabletop sim..... :P
