What are people playing? Enquiring minds want to know.

By Darth Nadir, in X-Wing

Thought it might be fun to see what types of lists people are playing for fun these days. A chance to revel in others wins, and maybe learn a thing or two from thier loses. Not overly concerned with what people are running at tournaments, Lord knows we see enough of that, but so much more interested in what is being fielded on dining room tables. So post your most recent team, and maybe share a thought or two on how it did. What you thought went right, and what you might change the next time you field that team.

This is what I fielded on Saturday...

Baron of the Empire (x2) 58 Points

Push the Limit, Proton Rockets, Hull Upgrade, and Tie V/1

Zeta Leader 30 Points

Predator, Comm Relay, and Sheild Upgrade

Academy Pilot "Dogmeat" 12 Points

100 Points

All in all it was a fun game. It was a 3-way free for all with my son running two fully decked out B Wings (Nora and Farlander), and my best friend running two Star Vipers (Dalan and Thweek), and a Kihraxz Fighter (Talonbane).

The Star Vipers get MVP this game, as they were able to dance around quite a bit. Those banking barrel rolls are very handy. Talonbane was a complete nightmare as he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, and 5 dice to the face hurts a little bit. Thweek took Farlander's pilot abilty.

The B-Wings went down first, and I believe my son learned a little lesson about the importance of min/maxing. Maybe there are those who won't agree with me, but I think 60 points is a little much for a B-Wing.

I lost the Barons first. The Proton Rockets were a mistake I think. With most of my green moves being 1 speed it was hard to get up close, and I had to sacrifice to much mobility to shake the stress from PTL. So I have replaced the rockets with Concussion Missiles and ditched the Hull upgrades for Twin Ion Engines. This also leaves me with a 2 point priority bid. Hindsight, right? "Dogmeat" was a champion as always. He didn't do much damage, but he took, and evaded, so many attacks that could have been thrown at the rest of my team. He went down 3rd, followed by Zeta. Scum didn't lose a single ship.

So... What ya playing?

Our tournaments here are more for fun ito list building, but we go tooth and claw trying to win

Case and point, yesterday's tournies was won by (I **** you not) Horton, nera and roark

That's r2d6 expertise TLT Horton with Vectored Thrusters, TLT Rey roark, and DEADEYE + fcs + plasma + extra Nera

So really, he was the only player to deserve that alt art anyway

My current 'anodyne to the meta' list is Oicunn/Daredevil/Dauntless/Engine/BoShek/Recruit/Intel Agent/EM/Conner Net and Deathrain/AS/Bomblet/UGR/LWF. It's hilarious.

GUNBOATS.

And soon Silencers.

My initial good times with the double Ghosts have got me itching for more table time:

  • Lothal Rebel - Fire Control System, Twin Laser Turret, Sabine Wren, "Chopper", Cluster Mines, Extra Munitions (51)
  • Kanan Jarrus - Fire Control System, Dorsal Turret, Recon Specialist, Rey (48)

Everything else is kind of in a holding pattern waiting for FAQ and the new stuff.

I keep meaning to try out double decis too. Now that I have two cool painted Decis.

Deci/Deci/Countdown and Upsilon/Usilon/Deci are also hilarious.

I've only put it on the table a couple of times, but I'm really enjoying flying this. Three ships, all of which have some maneuverability tricks going on (admittedly in a quite limited "can barrel roll" way for Norra), and are immensely fun to fly. I'm considering swapping Juke for Intensity or PtL on Sabine for more nonsense, although the Juke has been doing good work.

Norra Wexley (29)
Push the Limit (3)
Kyle Katarn (3)
R2-D2 (4)
Vectored Thrusters (2)
Alliance Overhaul (0)

Poe Dameron (PS9) (33)
Intensity (2)
BB-8 (2)
Primed Thrusters (1)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Sabine Wren (TIE Fighter) (15)
Juke (2)

I've recently had fun trying out this list (Each ship 33 pts, total 99):

Jake Farrell - AWTP, Intensity, Juke, Proton Rockets, Autothrusters

Kyle Katarn - Moldy Crow, Recon Specialist, TLT, Trick Shot

Lowhhrick - Selflessness OR Draw Their Fire (Still testing), Rey, Tactician

Intensity Jake has been SUPER fun to use with Kyle Katarn's ability to arc dodge and setup surprising Proton Rockets.

I just got myself a Decimator the other day. My first large Ship, and I am dying to try something like this. Ramming speed!

I'm already putting the company's kids through college because of this game, but I think I'm going to have to pick up a second one of these myself.

I love this! Nice to see somebody playing Interceptors. There a little fragile compared to so many of the newer ships, but I don't feel they are completely antiquated just yet. Personally, I'd like to see you expand on this a little bit and tell us how you did.

Did someone say double ghosts? I played the crap out of double ghosts when they first came out from store champs all the way to worlds. They're so much fun to fly, but I always flew two Lothal Rebels with either a Y-wing or an A-wing. I might break them out again and see how they hold up against the current meta.

The Nym/Miranda type things really don't like being a turret duel against 32 hull.

I had a blast the other day with this list:

Jake and Chopper (100)

•Jake Farrell (32) - A-Wing
Intensity (2), Proton Rockets (3), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Autothrusters (2), Veteran Instincts (1)

•"Chopper" (45) - VCX-100
Accuracy Corrector (3), Autoblaster Turret (2), "Zeb" Orrelios (1), BoShek (2), •Ghost (0)

•Sabine Wren (23) - Attack Shuttle
Intensity (2), •Phantom (0)

The list came about because I wanted to try out Intensity Jake, and I hadn’t flown my Ghost in a while so it seemed like a good fit for the points. I was going to have Kanan as the Ghost pilot but there wasn’t enough points left for the Phantom, so I dropped down to Chopper and went full on with the ram them and do stuff theme with Chopper’s ability, BoShek, and Zeb+Autoblaster Turret.

And then Sabine in the attack shuttle with intensity because it fit the points and again, I was experimenting with Intensity.

I flew it against my friend’s nasty Nym + Ketsu list that he has been practicing with for several weeks now and I lost, but just barely. And the main reason I lost was because he outflew me and I never got to ram him with Chopper. I dropped Nym fairly quickly while taking some damage to Chopper, then lost Jake and then Chopper to Ketsu, leaving Sabine vs a Ketsu with a little over half health. Sabine was amazing, and I brought Ketsu down to 2 health before Sabine dropped, and the round she died I would have had a shot on Ketsu so it could have easily gone either way.

Not too shabby for a “for fun” list I threw together last minute vs a well-practiced top tier (or at least tier 1.5) list.

Oh and by the way, Intensity Jake was amazing, and so much fun to fly. I’m looking forward to revisiting this list when the Phantom II comes out and I can coordinate to Jake at the start of combat and let him do Jake stuff without needing VI, which will mean I can slap another EPT on him... I haven’t decided what yet.

Lately, my listbuilding has been"doesnt contain a striker? Back to the drawing board!"

So, I've been considering two versions of a list recently and can't really decide which I like better.

While my track record isn't great with this, I still enjoy flying it. I'm still not sure which version I like better, as both have their own ups and downs. I would love to put the Wullf of the first list with the Dash of the second, but poor Rey can only help one ship at a time.

I'll be taking the following list to casual nights until the next tournament. Gotta start prepping for Regionals!

Inaldra — M3-A Interceptor 15
Attanni Mindlink 1
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Pulsed Ray Shield 2
"Heavy Scyk" Interceptor (Cannon) 2
Ship Total: 24
Quinn Jast — M3-A Interceptor 18

My last fun list was aimed at getting off 3-die snap shot attacks: Mauler Mithel w/Snap Shot, Zeta Leader w/Snap Shot & TIE MkII, Sabacc w/Snap Shot, Ailerons and LWF, and Yorr w/CD and Palpatine. Being able to roll that extra die while having the option for the Emperor to make it a crit was a blast, and once I took down half of a 60-point Han just with snap shots and blocking, while the regular shots finished the job. It's unfortunate that Yorr doesn't work with Zeta Leader's ability, but at least he helps the others turn around and still get their actions.

@SabineKey

Could you possibly get away with Recon Spec/Jan Ors on your Wullffwarro/Predator build? There's a lot of flexibility on your choice of tokens to take.

Although personally, I've flown the PTL/Kanan/Kyle version before and really like it. It really suits my style of flying.

If I could ever stop playing Imperials, I would 100% run double ghosts right now.

Per the OP, Ive been running Soontir Fel with the two named SFs in slightly different variations. It's fun and can handle anything.

Don't ever stop playing Imperials. hat double ghost build sounds ghastly.

For me, after a good 2 years of Scum I'm back on the Defender hype-train. Last time out was Expertise TB TIE/D Vessery plus two X7 Deltas which had people cursing their name. Planning on taking them out for a spin again this weekend, maybe in a different configuration...

1 hour ago, Darth Nadir said:

Maybe there are those who won't agree with me, but I think 60 points is a little much for a B-Wing.

People run B-Wings worth less than 80 points?!

I mostly just throw together something that sounds fun, usually with an emphasis on secondary weapons. Most recently I had a TIE Defender /D, a TIE Adv. Prototype, and a TIE Aggressor take on Rey and an Auzituck. I probably should have lost, but for several turns in a row my dice seemed to be all hits/evades and his were consistently blank (even though he was rerolling constantly and I almost never was).

we just had a large tournament this weekend and aside from some Miranda/Dash builds, it was very diverse.

I have been flying different variants of my Swarm Leader list:

Jess Pava/Swarm Leader/Integrated Astromech/R2D6

Green Squadron Pilot/Juke/Snapshot/Refit/Test Pilot/Autothrusters x2

Gold Squadron Pilot/Ion Cannon/BTL/R3A2

is my latest version, usually it's ditch the Auto-thrusters and put in Jan Ors w/Dorsal/Nein Numb

I'm going to put it on the shelf for a while.
