Zuihitsu (Informal Commentary): Rather than the more formal Essay format, Zuihitsu is a form of casual writing with randomly recorded thoughts on any given subject. Often this would take the form of observations on randomly recorded life events or subjects which would come to the author's mind. While not as well regarded as more formal Essays , more astute courtiers will typically investigate or read over such journals for additional insight into subjects that are pertinent, as well as use it to gather insights into political opponents.
