Off Topic - Something bugging me about TLJ trailer

By Gallanteer, in Star Wars: Armada

The shots of Rey lighting the lightsaber and especially the shots of her swinging it over her head and swinging it toward the rock don't look correct. The shots look.....unfinished/low quality. This might mean these shots won't appear in the movie, or worse, that the cinematography might be a bit jarring. Not sure what it is, but those shots definately don't seem to have the same quality as the rest of the trailer.

Odds are they're not going to make it into the movie. Look at Rogue One, most of the shots in the trailer never made it into the movie.

But Rogue One had gigantic reshoots, that's why most didn't make it.

At this point, I want to see more previews look like the one for The Incredibles or like the Deadpool marketing. Show me the characters or premise without showing me mch of the movie. If the characters or premise are engaging, I’ll watch it.

True, but honestly, if you watch most trailers and really really pay attention, most of the trailer isn't in the movie. They film each scene a dozen times, more movie hits the cutting room floor than ever makes it to the final reel. These could be cut shots, or early, non-quite-finished versions. Heck, some movies will shoot fake scenes that are never intended to make it into the movie. Beyond all that, Ep8 did have a number of reshoots earlier this year.

I know what was wrong...

Not enough Porg. ;)

What the trailer doesn’t show is that Chewie brought the Porg on as 2nd mate along with the new 3rd mate, Sriracha

It's not unusual for trailers to use footage that isn't finished, or to finish it specifically for the trailer.

That means post-stuff like sound or CGI or coloring can be done specifically for the trailer, potentially by a different company, because the scene in question was still just raw footage. Also often the trailer will end up using a different take than the movie does, of the same scene.

If anybody remembers, there was that trailer for the Mummy reboot that went up with only Tom Cruise's audio track, which was hilarious.

I'll take two with a side of fries.

Frak the most iconic scene from the Rogue One trailers was never in the movie. The story is (from an iO9 article) is that they were just messing around on the set one day and someone called Felicity's name just as they hit the lights. Everyone thought it was epic and they spent half an afternoon just getting the timing right.
