Hungarian Q3 Store Tournament

By Rimsen, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

Honored Admirals!

Hereby lies my report of the latest engagements in the Central European Sector of the Outer Rim. At the heart of the sector, lies a barely significant system with 1 militarily significant planet, Budapest. 8 different warlord tried to get a grip on the planet, but 1 emerged victorious among them...

So storytellig aside, we had a blast yesterday! 8 great players (2 rebels only), tasty burgers and lots of excitement!

This was the fleet i've flown and which with I brought home the first place (if barely). Polished through the last month with the help of you and my opponents.

Commander: Admiral Screed

Assault Objective: Most Wanted
Defense Objective: Hyperspace Assault
Navigation Objective: Salvage Run

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
= 23 total ship cost

Gladiator I-Class Star Destroyer (56 points)
- Demolisher ( 10 points)
- Intel Officer ( 7 points)
- Assault Concussion Missiles ( 7 points)
= 80 total ship cost

[ flagship ] Interdictor-class Suppression Refit (90 points)
- Admiral Screed ( 26 points)
- Interdictor ( 3 points)
- Captain Needa ( 2 points)
- Fighter Coordination Team ( 3 points)
- Disposable Capacitors ( 3 points)
- Ion Cannon Batteries ( 5 points)
- Targeting Scrambler ( 5 points)
- Grav Shift Reroute ( 2 points)
= 139 total ship cost

Gozanti-class Cruisers (23 points)
= 23 total ship cost

1 Maarek Steele ( 21 points)
2 VT-49 Decimators ( 44 points)
2 TIE Fighter Squadrons ( 16 points)
1 Colonel Jendon ( 20 points)
1 Darth Vader ( 21 points)

First round I clashed with a Rieekan with Aces (Wedge, Luke, Dutch and 1 more I forgot) Admonition, Yavaris, Salvation and TRCvette. He picked my Most Wanted, and I named the Admonition. It was the first ship to fall, followed by Yavaris, then the rest. Luckily i've learnt from the mistakes I made when we played practice match. I still got the alpha since every fighter he had had speed 3. Only lost Vader through the game. Admonition had 1 shot, but Targeting Scramble ruined that too. His red dice really doomed him, but I think he didn't roll more than 5 dmg through the whole game... 10 - 1

The whole tournament was really close, I was the only one with 10 points, 3 players with 8.

The second game I also got one of my sparring mates, but he made some last minute changes, and had a whole different fleet. I chose to start and picked Contested Outpost, but as I later realized I really misplayed that GSR when I moved it. He also had Screed on an ISD2, a Vic2 and a Demolisher with a token fighter screen. His Demo fell to mine before it could shoot, then was a bit of slugfest. Beat his squads without losses, then he popped my Demo with the Vic (ISD cruised on the station and shot from long, then later medium to the Interdictor and gathered 60 points), before I bombed the **** out of the ISD. Judge called time at the start of the 5th turn, I saved my 1 hp squads from flak, and tried to finish the Vic, but it lingered on 2 hp. It was 302 to his 80 + 60 points, 8 - 3

At this point I lead the table with 3 points, and 4 points to the 4th player. I needed to play safe (though not my style), but my last match up was just an all out offensive which further not supported this, so I really feeled the rush last game :)

My last opponent brought 1 of his favourite, Ozzel on an ISD2, Gladiator and a BCC Gozanti with Boba, Firesprays, and fighters (Mithel, Dengar and Vader) to cover them. He chose my Hyperspace Assault (at this point I really regretted not using Fighter Ambush) and I put away Demo (khm... mistaaaaaaake). So at turn 2 Demo jumped in, just to be blown to bits before warming up the missile launchers. (True, he barely got enough damage with some above average rolls, but still I made a gamble and lost). He tried to escape (he had Engine Tech) but at the end of the next turn I erased it with the Interdictor and 2 lucky Decimators throwing 3 damage each. Meanwhile our fighters clashed, his Vader fell in the alpha, Mithel and Boba really wreck havoc on the generics but they fell with the rest. I also lost a Decimator and Vader. I could destroy his Gozanti and the rest of the Firesprays for a total 49 point difference for 5 - 6.

At the time we wasn't sure it was how much TPs until the judge didn't return and then he still refused to enlighten us, so the placements were really exciting until all the matches were done.

We were so close to each other, I won by 1 point, 2nd was also 1 ahead of the 3-4 places, which were only decided by the MoV.

It was a great tournament, and thanks for taking the time to read it through!

We had 2 Screeds, Rieekan, Ackbar, 2 Sloanes (1 ace based and 1 generic), 1 Ozzel and a Tarkin.

Imteresting things:

- No BTvenger whatsoever

- 3-4 activations, no more, no less.

- Only Ozzel, me and the Sloanes brought large fighter presence, the others only around 30 - 80 points. (Tarkin only had a Saber)

- No hammerheads, and the Rebels were barely noticable (6th and 8th places)

I think it's great that you found a way to make the Interdictor work! From what I know, there aren't a whole lot of interdictor lists around, but this one really shined!

If I were you, there is pretty much nothing to change, that list is as good as it gets!

@Rimsen it is extremely inspiring and motivating to see an Interdictor fleet not only perform well but also win an event.

Was the Demo always the ship of the match in terms of damage output or did the squadrons hold that title?

I have always struggled to find a way to get the Interdictor to work. For a similar points cost you can get an ISD for example. I obviously have to use it a different way to get the most out of it.

Thanks for taking the time to write that put, truly appreciated.

Nice to see another Interdictor list take down a Kit tournament - I'd like to try this but I refuse to purchase a Gladiator!

More or less, yes. I'd say 45 % Demo, 40 % squadrons (Maarek - Jendon is more consistent than the 2 Decimators) and 15 % Interdictor. (Somewhere here there's a Remember the name reference...)

Demo is great to blow up the biggest threat, and the rest can clean up to a win. It's crucial that I can get it to position, especially that i'd like to play as second.

The 3rd match, when I lost it before everything else really took it's toll (that was the 5-6), especially because he had large squadron presence, and he tied my decimators with the Firesprays, so I had to eat them first.

Well, basicly the core idea was that I want to use the Dictor. Gladiator was for the damage component, and the Dictor helped him stay alive with the Targeting Scramble, So i could be more aggressive, but I had to position well. It payed off :) For next time I might try it without Demolisher, with Quasar, it could really use TS for incoming Demos and MC30s. Opting for fighters, and maybe a big gunship for dmg. I don't know yet.

I have had vague aspirations to run an Interdictor with FCT pushing a squadron build but not put anything together.

Not sure on the Quasar, you won't be dealing enough damage.
