Huge ship vs upgrade cards use

By Capt.Yog, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Salute

We did our first "epic" game last week and some questions have been raised and we were not able to find any clarification in the basic rules.

  1. Lets say I have a Gunner team on the FORE section of a huge ship, can it use is ability on a ALF section secondary weapon ?
  2. If a enemy ship have an attack range of 2-3, and the closest range is 1 from the FORE, both it is at range 2-3 from the AFT, but crossing the blue line and still have an angle outside the blue line, can it fire ?
  3. Can I use a target lock from one section, for the other section ?

Thank you

1. Upgrades anywhere on the ship affect the entire ship unless otherwise specified (cue the old R2-D2 FAQ entry).

2. The blue line only matters when the huge ship is attacking if you're attacking with a turret primary weapon (which is to say, it only matters for the CR-90's primary weapon). Measure the range as normal. Check the arc as normal. (Secondaries on a section that has multiple arcs can use any arc on that section to determine whether they have a shot. They can't use arcs on the other section.)

3. Yes. Huge Ship rules, page 2: "When a huge ship acquires a target lock, the blue target lock is placed next to the ship. It is not assigned to either section, and it can be spent by either section."

By the way, if you haven't already downloaded the more-current (still not all that current, but more current) huge ship rules from the X-Wing product page, do that.

Clarified point 2.

The blue line actually matters for a Huge Ship Turret Primary Weapon (the CR-90 Primary) AND any ship that is attacking a huge ship.

"To target a huge ship, choose a section (either fore or aft) of a huge ship that the attacking ship can target normally. Then, measure a line from the exact center of the attacking ship’s base to the exact center of the base for the chosen section of the huge ship. If this line is not obstructed by the blue center line on the huge ship’s ship token, the attacker can declare the chosen section as his target." - Huge Ship Rules 3.0

So if a ship is attacking a Huge Ship with something like Heavy Laser Cannon and it is Range 1 to the front section of the ship (not a valid weapon range), and a center to center line to the aft section crosses the blue line then that ship cannot attack the Huge Ship with a Heavy Laser Cannon as neither section is a valid target.

Thank guys, this is what I though, but wanted some confirmation.

One other question, can I equip the fore and the alf with the same crew/team if it's not an unique card? Like putting one gunners team on the front and one on the rear?

cheers

Gunnery Team is Limited so you can only equip 1 per ship, even if that ship has 2 sections. The only teams that can are not Limited are the Sensor Team and the IG-RM Thug Droids, both of which can be equipped more than once to the same ship, though the only one that would have an effect from a second instance is the IG-RM Thug Droids.

Crew have the same restrictions as any other ship. Only one instance of any unique per squad, and only 1 instance of any Limited per ship.

Yeah, that's true. I was trying to say that the only instance when you care about your own blue line while attacking is the CR-90's turret primary, but it wasn't clear.

Dude, you can't just tell us you played epic and not include some details on who flew what and which side won and which ships were the aces of the day.

Sorry "Dude", my goal wasn't to post a battle report. I had precise questions some guys have answered them ;)

cheers!
