Can't decide on a cannon!

Help! Normally I'd always take Mangler cannon in this case, but I don't have the points! On Serissu, I can either take Flechette Cannon and be at 100 points, or Tractor Beam and be at 99. Which would you take, and why?

I'd take a tractor beam to drop AG/reposition baddies so the others can get good hits in.

I would have to agree. Being the highest at PS 8, and only having 2 dice anyways, you aren't losing much. You could completely mess up somebody for the next turn (even if they have already shot), and against the Nym meta right now that can be invaluable (to say nothing of the agility dropping: with three mangler cannons to back you up, and the Attani Genesis getup you could be dealing some pretty serious damage to whatever ship has unluckily suffered a tractor beam.)

Plus you get the 99 intitave bid, which may not help against Nym with PS but does give you the first asteroid should you choose so, which works to your benefit with whatever attack plan you make with tractor.

The stress could be good, but the ace's right now don't really care too much. Nym can drop bombs stressed or not, and being able to move him into range one of your ships and denying his TLT can be invalulable to saving the lower health of your M3's.

Maybe I'm just biased for tractor beams :D

Apologies, I have trouble spelling sometimes ;)

Still makes me sad that rebels have no decent built in tractor beaming capabilities.

Scum have shenanigans with action Quadjumpers AND the Shadowcaster.
At least Imperials can do something with TIE/D Tractor Defenders

Rebels get.... sacrificial BSP with a tractor wasting 3

Agreed. When you're only giving up a 2-dice primary, and you've got 3 other ships shooting at the target, tractor beams are the order of the day.

Even if you're not bothered about being at 99 points, you can still uprate Jast's Concussion Missiles to Homing Missiles.

True but it's still sacrificing other potential damage from a different cannon. Sure the Rebels have different carriers, but none of them that can be efficient with their tractor beaming (via action like Quadjumper, or the double shot from Tie/D. They still have to sacrifice a ship that does nothing but shoot cannons instad of other potential damage dealing shots like primary or alternative cannon).

Although I will admit that the idea of a tractor dash never occurred to me. I really want to go try this now and be even more annoying than a quadjumper. hey hey guess what? IM BEHIND YOU. AND YOUR ON AN ASTEROID. AND I CAN DO IT AGAIN.

I just go with the movies.

Always tractor Serrisu, that's my scum filler ship. I usually run vi as the elite slot and think you should consider it for your list. As mentioned by others high PS is pretty popular at the moment, but there's the added effect that killing Serrisu has less impact on the squad and so her target priority might drop... or it might mean she has less tokens and dies faster, that depends on your opponent.

I agree with your reasoning on the bid @Cow-of-Doom , but disagree with your conclusion. The bid is useful for a tractor list, but I recommend giving away initiative so that they put down the first rock. Then you can control the field density around it (I recommend about range 1.5 and no through lanes). Unless there's a pilot skill tie: in that case you should take initiative to get the opportunity of denying an enemy shot with a well placed tractor.
