Silencer = Avenger?

By Rhaivaen, in X-Wing

Does anybody else think the sam in regards to the Silencer simply being a Sith version of the Avenger TIE?

(Or should have been)

They dont look exactly alike, but the wings do enough to make me feel they skipped over the Avenger and funked it up just so it would do for a SIlencer? hmmz.

I hate Kylo, and dont particularly care for the New Order stuff, I do however love the Avenger, which so far has been glossed over, for the likes of the Gunboat etc. lol.

I like the Silencer... but I like the Avenger more.

Given that its codename has been mentioned as TIE/vn, it seems likely this was at least some of the inspiration.

Originally the craft was going to be the TIE Vengeance, hence TIE/Vn.

The TIE Avenger has always been the neglected son of the TIE Fighter series, even though it was a very challenging opponent to face when you upgraded to different craft. Right after the gunboat, I'd say it's the most desired fighter for the game right now.

The TIE Silencer, I think, puts a nail in that coffin as much as the OS-1 title does for the missile boat. It's a good guess the Silencer will be a maneuver nightmare with the new maneuvers that are lacking on the TIE Interceptor since that craft's development (But it wont' have the white K-turn like the TIE/D). Personally I wish the TIE/vn had a spherical cockpit instead of the octagonal one, but there is precedent , if we look at the TIE/Vn as the modern-age TIE Avenger.

My hope is that somewhere in the TIE Silencer lore, we read that Sienar-Jaemus developed Kylo Ren's craft out of a little-known offshoot of the TIE Advanced nicknamed the "TIE Avenger". This puts the avenger back in the universe, and perhaps opens the door to its appearance further down the line in the new canon.

Its close enough that I will take it.

Silencer != Avenger

the Avenger was an unsuccessful prototype that the empire later broke apart into two strikers in order to salvage their investment

the first order, having learned about the disaster at Scarrif from the Archive memory, then cobbled together their stock of spare strikers into half as many Silencers

completely different!

If the TIE Silencer is the Avenger <_<

then the T-70 is the E-wing. -_-

Avenger would be closer to 3/3/2/2 or 3/3/2/3. Give it the missile upgrade the Silencer is missing. A title that regens a shield by spending an action. Throw in a different flavor of dial and it could be a cheaper alternative

Bam. Very different ship.

TIE Phantom has a nonstandard cockpit too.

I think 2/2 for hull/shields would be the more fitting of the two options. As I recall, the Avenger was rather delicate, and even at 200% shields tended to go down quicker than a Gunboat at 100% shields if the attacks actually hit (though with the Avenger, it was much easier to avoid attacks).

Sadly, there probably is no place for the Avenger in the game other than for completeness' sake and that it's one of the last recognizable TIEs FFG hasn't done. I agree that it would probably be 3/3/2/2(maybe 3/3/3/2...maybe)with a missile. This essentially makes it either a shielded Interceptor with a missile or an Advanced with Interceptor firepower. But as both of those and the Defender, are in the game, there's no room for the Avenger anymore at the cost that would make it a better option over the Defender or Advanced, with titles/upgrades.

I had always thought the Avenger was meant to be the production version of the Advanced. Back when the TIE Fighter video game was out, there was just Vader's TIE. A prototype shielded TIE with a hyperdrive. Refined, added firepower, the Avenger was for the Elite of the Empire pilots. Then the Defender came out...

I did get the OP's pic Avenger from Mel on Shapeways where he does have a 2nd version that has an octagonal canopy that I do recall seeing somewhere(TIE Fighter II?). I got the ball cockpit version from above to use as a named Advanced pilot like Juno or Steele. The octagonal version may have inspired the Silencer.

Actually, it was supposed to be TIE Vendetta.

Yeah, something like that . ;)

Now I'll be very tempted to mount the TIE Silencer's wings into a TIE Advanced model...

That's an interesting idea :)

The 'vn' in TIE/vn is for Vendetta not vengeance, but I'm glad they went with Silencer because that's a much better name.

LFL have already stated the design is based on the TIE interceptor and TIE Advanced.

I personally prefer this design to the Avenger, I may be alone in that, but I like it all the same. I like that its larger, as I always found the Avenger looked stumpy, even though it wasn't, I guess its the angles. I also like the cockpit design, if anything it's a more practical design than the older TIE cockpits.

So's the design of the Avenger ;)

It's close, but close only counts with horseshoes and feedback arrays.

Close enough for me, though. Snip out the square back panels in the wings, repaint Imperial grey, job done.

Thank you for the correction, though stupid names hasn't stopped stupid fighters from making fans before.

I was going to paint mine imperial grey, but I forgot about the back panels. Not sure of my snips will end up breaking the wings because of how thin they area....

Lol well that may be the case, but correlation doesn't imply causation etc, etc.

I think we'll only see a real Tie Avenger if future movies don't introduce enough new Empire / First Order content. I think chances are extremely slim of a Tie Avenger ever appearing on screen either (Han Solo movie should take place far before a Tie Avenger would be developed, and it won't be in any TFA era movies, though a Boba movie taking place after he gets out of the Sarlac Pit could include one).
