Good vs Evil

By Croonos, in Talisman

Stuff for Good and Evil Characters looks really unbalanced for the moment. Additionaly Evil one can easily replenish Fate which is difficult for Good Character - there is no place on the board to do that. On the other side Life can be heal in many places - at least there is reason to spend a gold . I compared the stuff for Good and Evil ones and it looks as below (scale 1-5 points):

ADVENTURE CARDS

GOOD

Holy Grail - (2p) - Water Bottle and +1C only

Holy Lance - (3p) - gave one more point hoping for the future Dragon exp. + 1S in battle +3S in battle with Dragons only

Sword of Light - (3p) +2S in battle and +1C in Psychic Combat

Celestial Bauble (2p) - auto win in Psychic Combat but nothing more

EVIL

Runesword (4p) + 1S in Battle and drain Life from defeated enemies - very usefull especialy during PvP on CoC

Staff of Mastery – (5p) excellent object - the much stronger enemy you encounter the better then you can easily defeat LoD and even go on CoC

Skull Wand – (4p) much better than Sword Of Light because of the lack of Weapons which can be used in Psychic Combat

Homunculus (3p) +1S and +1C as Follower it is much harder to take away than object

Chalice of Shadow (1p) Water Bottle and +1S

DUNGEON

GOOD

Shield of Faith – (4p) it can save a life in battle and psychic combat

Anointed Robe – (4p) +1 for praying and defending with armour

Holy Avenger – (1p) ineresting for PvP but most of the times useless when Evil Character is not in a game or is very strong

BAD

Book of Diablere - (4p) always +2C and we can discard useless Follower to take one Spell

Soul Drinker - (1p) better use Fate than lost useful Follower...

To sum up all the points from previous cards we can easily find better stuff for the Evil characters. Evil has much more powerful objects to attack and for inceasing Craft which is much better than objects increasing Strength which you can easily buy. Good has only powerfull stuff for defend but they are useles as Good one can heal Life for free. I think that to balace the game it needs some powerful stuff also for Good characters.

Would you like to see items included in the game that only neutral characters can use?

Ell

Hmmm, IMO 'tis looks like in a normal life. Subjectively evil people can have lots of things easire due to having no scrupulous. On the other hand such people rather can gather around minions rather than friends but the word follower is sort of neutral.

There is no object being possessible ny onle neutral characters which I thing would be better solution than bringing some powerful artifacts for the Good. I usually choose to play either neutral or evil character and have not noticed any advantage of being evil. My wife always choosing a good char usu is much quicker approaching the CoC level of her character. IMO equipping her with more powerful or useful artifacts I would not be able to use would boost her <The Good> too much,

With my best wishes

Off coursegui%C3%B1o.gif

But they must also include a place where you can changed to Neutral.

I hope that the City will offer that..

That's our only hope..

Depends, Polish edition of City - Miasto - had an option to change Alignment from Evil/Good to Neutral. English description of Anarchist's Guild is really unclear, and basically it is hard to say, what it means. I've read two files, one of them is Elliott's one, and there he forced an idea: Good can change their Alignment to Evil and vice versa. So, we might see possibility to be Neutral or not. But since until now FFG didn't made Neutral Alignment cards, I rather doubt that.

Yes, Talisman has always been bipolar in alignment for the most part. It's part of keeping it simple, as its humorous side is to play off fantasy cliches. But I too have always thought that neutral should have a little something in that department, though anarchy is not the same as Neutral. Anarchy is the rejection of centralized authority; it has nothing to do with morality in context of Good and Evil.

I don't think that items for neutral characters only should apprer because they can use all the stuff which good and evil characters can not use so it is a huge adventage for neutral. I prefer to see items which neutral characters CAN NOT use. Those items can be really interesting e.g. having different abilities for good and different for evil characters... This kind of stuff can improve ballance between characters beacuse since the Reaper expansions evil ones have great adventage in Adventure cards (17p : 10p). Dungeon and Frostamarch do not change it significantly so I hope in future expansions we receive some great items (especially to attack) for good characters.

Items created for Neutral could also have a lean to either Good or Evil with benefits lesser than those for Neutral. I've done it in my In the Balance expansion (TalismanIsland.com) which adds Places, Followers, Magic Objects, Strangers, etc. proportionally with a lean to Neutral that still had uses (with limits) for good and evil. There's even a Place where Neutral characters get to "pray" that has a minimal lesser benefit for good and evil. Trying to further limit Neutrals is not the answer, since they already are limited with no direct place for replentishing Fate or healing Lives for free. Of course it all depends on Neutral becoming something more than the alignment of no alignment. Not that alignment really means squat in Talisman.

Yes, it can be done and I'm not even the first; it has been done a number of times in the past, though never given notice by the game's production companies. And the number of people interested in this is far greater than you realize. My expansion is already in the process of being translated by eager communities around the world into French, German, and Czech... a Spanish project is also in the making (though I didn't even know ... if... Talisman was released in Spanish). These will also include new refinements requested by multiple groups in multiple countries. At least one foreign language version will be released at the same time ITB 2.0 English is ready... hopefully soon.

Yup! Spanish and Portuguese versions were released by Devir. Shameless plug! gui%C3%B1o.gif
