So, with that new Saturation Salvo, I feel like some ordnance carriers can be better, like Nera or other B-Wings, Rhymer, etc. (But not Y-Wings because Y U NO HAS EPT HORTON and the Ghost because Hera has no ept which makes me sad). I'm thoroughly ready and very happy to make an actually effective ordnance list, even without the GUNBOAT itself. Anyone else feel the same?
Make Ordnance Great Again?
The problem with most ordnance carriers is not “Aw nuts I just fired my ordnance and missed,” but rather, “oh crap I’m a fragile ship with lots of extra points loaded on me so the entire enemy list focus-fired me and now I just blew up and I still have 2 torpedoes and a missile in my racks that I didn’t get to fire and now they’re wasted points.”
Sadly, Saturation Salvo does nothing to help those kinds of ordnance carriers.

See, if Hera had an EPT, then we'd have a durable ordnance carrier for Saturation Salvo that would be able to get its two shots off very consistently. I guess they were scared of Expose w/primary, TLT and FCS because only Scum can rule the meta.
I mean...the B-Wing will be better than it was, but so will everything else that can take ordnance, so there’s still not much of a reason to take it...
poor punisher doesn't even get mentioned ...

No EPT, but only because it didn't fit on the upgrade bar. I have no idea how to fix that.
Gamma squadron pilot, saturation salvo, unguided rockets. You’re welcome.
But... ordnance was already great. It was just dramatically underused outside of TorpScouts. Some other carriers were still rock solid with them.

Fixed that for you.

Seriously. Between cruise missiles and prockets, most of my alpha-strike TIEs are loaded for bear.
I dunno, I’m just not feeling Saturated Salvo. If you’re going to load up on ordnance then I don’t see the point in banking on missing with that ordnance, especially when there is so many ways out there now that can help increase your chances of hitting.
And even if you do miss and you have SS, well, the payoff isn’t that great. Half of a bomblet to any ships in the area that don’t happen to have a high enough agility. And it can hit your own ships.
But the real kicker is that it takes up the EPT slot. I mean, if it were 0 points then I could maybe see my way into taking it in the occasional list where you’re short on points, but even at 1 point there are so many better EPTs you can give your ordnance carriers, such as Deadeye (to make it easier to launch ordnance), Veteran Instincts (So you can move after more ships and TL the ones you have in arc), or Crackshot (to help you hit stuff, because you know, if you’re going to spend points on torpedos or missiles then you actually want to hit stuff when you fire them- in other words, the complete opposite of Saturated Salvo ).
So yeah... I just don’t see the point in this card. I guess FFG figured that Munitions Failsafe was getting lonely tucked away in the dark unused recesses of everybody’s binders and decided to make a friend for it.
Or maybe I’m just missing the point- anybody care to enlighten me as to why I would ever want to take SS?

Yup. Sat Salvo is just terrible.

This guy's got the right idea. Saturation Salvo isn't an upgrade, it's a play style. If you can consistently launch ordnance, you know you're going to miss sometimes. But if you roll dice enough times, you'll get damage to stick.
Now, Unguided Rockets aren't my first choice because Saturation Salvo will only proc against ships with an agility value of 1. Perhaps something more along the lines of:
Rho Squadron Veteran (Homing Missiles, OS-1 Arsenal Loadout, Saturation Salvo, Advanced SLAM)
Unfortunately that's 32 squad points. But if you keep the TL on the target, you can SLAM and reload and fire every round. If you have a good roll, spend the TL to get damage to stick. If you only roll 1 hit, save the TL and let the attack miss. Homing Missiles are expensive, but they'll hit just about every ship in the game. A cloaked TIE phantom with Stealth Device is the only exception, I think. You can probably get away with any of the 3 point missiles, but there are still enough ships with AGI 3 flying around, and they're the ones you're most likely to miss, so I think Saturation Salvo is practically married to Homing Missiles. I could be way wrong.
I'm not saying it's good, but there are ways to make it work for you. I can see myself giving this a try a few times.
Here's the thing though.
You're better off spending that 1 point and EPT slot to hit in the first place.
Crack Shot, for instance.
Ordnance has been good in X-Wing for a while now. Triple scouts, alpha strike Dengar, Miranda, etc.
Y-wings and similar ships have never been good ordnance carriers and never will be. A Y-wing ordnance carrier doesn't have much to offer once the torpedos are gone. It's slow, poorly armed, and fairly fragile. For it to work, it has to deliver an ordnance alpha strike that wins the game in the opening salvo. The chassis is only capable of mopping up after you've effectively already won. Since that's not really fun for either party, FFG has never buffed ordnance to the point where it will turn a bad ship into a good one, only to the point where it can add some early game punch to an already good ship.
Honestly....
My guess is a couple months from now the forums will be complaining about how every list in the meta is a decide the game round 1 ordinance alpha strike.

You give it a title so it can have even more. Kinda like the Scurrg’s “problem”

man you're behind the times, this has been an issue since g-chips were released (howdy, DEADEYE scouts)
anyway, Salvo isn't doing anything at all to improve ordnance. It's kinda absolute junk with far too many hoops to jump through, the kind of upgrade that would be perfectly costed at 0 points because it
a.) requires further investment to even use at all (since it is literally worthless without MISSILES or TORPS)
b.) can literally, and fairly reliably, do jack **** (gotta miss, gotta have targets with a specific agility; gotta roll a dial)
This card doesn't help the non-scout ordnance carriers. It's just junk. Granted, it's far better junk than r3 or saboteur (because at least it's half the cost), but that's not much of a standard
