Huge & Conditions

By Kalandros, in X-Wing Rules Questions

So another new mechanic added that has no real ruling for Huge ships and situations that may occur:

Captain Rex shoots the Front of a Raider - the condition card is "assigned to a ship" - do both sections get the penalty for not shooting Rex?

Harpoon Missile strikes the Front of a Raider and then a crit is dealt to the front - since the condition card is assigned to the ship, is the splash dealt Range 1 of the Entire ship or the section hit?

A huge ship is still one ship, so Rex ought to reduce weapons on both sections, like any other effect which impacts one ship. "Huge ships count as a single ship consisting of two bases, one ship token, and one or two Ship cards."

From the Epic rules in the Damage section: "if an effect would damage both sections of a huge ship, the opposing player chooses one section, and the chosen section suffers the damage. If a huge ship suffers damage from a source that does not explicitly affect a single section, the opposing player chooses which section suffers the damage. Crippled sections cannot be chosen."

Without an updated FAQ we won't know for sure. Personally, I don't think they will have an effect. Harpooned might but it won't affect the section that wasn't hit if it follows the ruling on Assault Missiles. A Debt to Pay might but that's iffy. I don't see Kylo or Rex doing anything.

I was mis-remembering Harpooned for the moment. I'd thought it was each ship, not each other ship. Yeah, it won't trigger. The other section isn't another ship.

FFG muddied the waters somewhat with the R2-D2 crew debacle, but until clear new information the best interpretation is that anything which impacts one ship impacts the whole ship. Rules as written, an Epic ship is one ship.

Another interesting thing, when a section is crippled, that shouldn't trigger the Dead Man's Hand type effect. It ought to trigger only when both sections are crippled and the ship itself is destroyed.

Alright after thinking about it, here's how I think it should be:

The Condition affects the entire ship - thats as it is written in the rules

The part of the Harpooned condition that calls to measure range 1 will only apply to the section that received the crit: as per the Assault missile rule, the splash originates from the section

The part of the Harpooned condition that calls for when a ship is destroyed: measure range 1 around the entire base of the Huge ship
